This raw style of Pu’erh tea has been naturally aged and it is in loose leaf form (Maocha) instead of the Pu’erh cakes or bricks that are normally found. This particular lot comes from 20 year old tea trees (commonly referred to as “Da Shu” or Big Trees) and it has light yet bold flavors that are bittersweet but herbaceous. The brewed tea has a light yellow color to it and it smells of sweet jasmine. If this tea is left to age, it mellows out and develops a smoother complexity.
Kuanhong Village ranges in elevation from 5,900 feet to 6,500 feet (1,800 meters to 2,000 meters) and it is located in Yunnan, China and is owned by the Fan Family. They have some of the oldest trees in the region making their tea quite sought after in China. It is quite uncommon to see their tea outside of China as they routinely sell their entire harvests to tea businessmen. However they have set aside a small amount of their batches to be shared with the western world and they are very excited to be sharing their teas in countries that rarely see it.
