From Chroma Tea

Eight treasures herbal tisane with rose petals, goji berry, chrysanthemum, marigold, orange peel, licorice root, cornflower, and jasmine oil.

Floral and fruity, rich and soothing, Amethyst is inspired by a special herbal blend called Eight Treasures Tea – not so much a recipe as a format all about abundance, harmony, and balance.

The perfect Eight Treasures calls on all types of ingredients, bringing them together into something beautiful and supremely comforting.

Not to mention – with gorgeous chrysanthemum and rose blossoms, this tea is meant to look beautiful brewed in glass to show off every ingredient.

So this is a gorgeous blend, with the chrysanthemum blossoms mixed with rosebuds and the bright blue cornflower petals. Plus I generally like TCM ingredients, so I was excited to try it.

But… This pretty much tastes like chrysanthemum, and a very peppery chrysanthemum at that. I get a bit of the rose I guess, but the whole thing leans very savory, and the strong peppery notes make me feel like I’m eating biscuits and gravy LOL. I was hoping to taste the goji as well, but there’s nary a hint unfortunately. I do get a little touch of the licorice root in the finish.

Still a nice tea, as I do like chrysanthemum, but not what I was hoping for.

I ordered one of each of Chroma Tea’s new flavours because I simply couldn’t help myself. This one is inspired by a traditional Eight Treasures herbal blend which is, honestly, not something I really love – so my expectations were a bit lower here. The dry leaf is fucking GORGEOUS though and it honestly didn’t smell too bad. Very floral, leaning jasmine.

Steeped there’s a lot going on, but the flavour my palate latched on to the most with the jasmine oil. It had a surprisingly fresh and sweet flavour to it, and though I’m not really a huge fan of jasmine I liked how it complimented the honeyed sweetness of the chrysanthemum. Plus, all the flavours were sort of “lifted” a bit more than they may have been otherwise by the presence of licorice root which – thankfully – didn’t come through as an individual taste so much as its presence was felt in the way it interacted with other ingredients.
