From Bitterleaf Teas

This budget shou puer punches well above its weight. Made from 2015 Mengsong material, this tea is super smooth, a little nutty and with an excellent fragrance. This tea is as rich as they come for shou – you really couldn’t ask for more.

We strongly recommend having a brick on hand for when you need some emergency good vibrations sent your way. Also pairs well with feline companionship.

Gongfu!

Enjoyed this session stacked two steeps at a time. I was craving something rich, smooth and earthy and this very dark but clean tasting ripe pu’erh is really hitting the spot. Surprisingly sweet with heavy notes of sticky medjool dates, molasses, and jaggery that accent a lingering, slow building profile of rain-soaked top soil, leather bound books, vanilla, mud, and petrichor. The liquor is oily and slick, coating the mouth quickly even though the tasting notes finish quite crispy after the swallow. It’s one of those teas you feel in the back of the chest after a few steeps, slowly but steadily resonating throughout the body. If this is where the tea name comes from, then I think it’s quite brilliant!!

With Good Vibrations, BLT present a fairly simple, satisfying shou. The material is on the coarser side of the spectrum here, which is probably partially responsible for the relatively light body. The taste profile is of the nutty and earthy kind.

Dry leaves mostly smell of leather with hints of cannabis and forest floor. After the rinse, the aroma reminds me of hospitals a little. Apart from the underlying nutty and earthy taste, there are also flavours of molasses and egg whites. The lasting aftertaste is pretty smooth and refreshingly cooling, but doesn’t introduce too many new flavours.
