From Bitterleaf Teas

A bit of an unexpected addition, we chanced upon these laochatou while attempting to restock our original iteration of Golden Nuggets (RIP). Thanks to the use of higher quality material, these little guys offer up an even smoother and richer brew, with a similarly pleasant date-like sweetness.

For those unfamiliar with laochatou, they are the tasty byproduct of the shou puer process. These sticky chunks tend to form at the surface of the piles and while they’re removed before pressing into cakes, they can still be equally enjoyed. Don’t worry if they don’t “open up” as you brew them, even after several infusions. This is normal and just the way they are.

We highly recommend boiling these on the stove, either initially or after several infusions.. This will allow you to extract the most flavour from them.

pretty fantastic for the price. is this great tea? no. is it great value? absolutely. hard to call basic shou anything special, as generally seems to be the case, but if I didn’t have too much shou already (and if it wasn’t out of stock…), I would consider purchasing more maybe. I still have a gripe with BLT that they cancelled the gaiwan part of my order, but didn’t notify me until after shipping. The gaiwan was the main reason I even ordered.

generic base root, sweet taste, some slight chocolate as is characteristic of LCT. Sometimes can get a slight date/dried jujube like note. longer steeps can solve the issue w/ thinness.

I’m so sorry about the gaiwan! That was definitely our bad, but we’re making more effort going forward to check in with customers about out of stock items or hiccups like that before sending things out.

I don’t think I’ve checked steeptster in years by now, so finding this is a bit lucky. But feel free to contact us directly and let us know what order # yours was. We may be able to restock the gaiwan and offer free shipping or at least some kind of discount to make up for it. Just let us know and we’ll be happy to do what we can to make things right.

Hi! I don’t see the option to email anything in the Contact form on your site, but my order number was 70860. If you still have the gaiwan in stock this time, I’d order two of them and maybe some other teaware to make the shipping worth it.

Bitterleaf

Ah yes, the formatting on the contact page isn’t the clearest – this is a good reminder to improve that! I’ll follow up by email in a moment though.
