From Beautiful Taiwan Tea Company

The Vu family in Northern Vietnam have been growing tea for almost a hundred years. We visited this Spring and found them to be very hospitable and knowledgeable. Their teas are grown in what is commonly known as the best tea growing region in all of Vietnam: Thai nguyen. So here we have our trademark: family farmers with experience growing on their own land located in a premium, clean area. They are really hungry to do a great job producing their teas and want to introduce their teas to the world. We are the exclusive outlet for Vu family tea.

Dragon Cloud is a vegetal green tea suitable for daily drinking at a great price.

There is just a trace of bitterness in this, but it’s not unpleasant, and it’s not the sort of bitterness I associate with oversteeping. It actually reminds me of the bitterness that you get in salted caramel, and while this tea is salty, it’s definitety not that salty. It’s vegetal, with spinach and seaweed notes.

This is particularly flavorful for a green tea, so if you’re looking for a green with lots of character, I’d recommend this one.

Tasting #1 – Steep Time 4 Minutes
If grass were smoky what would that flavor be? Because that is what this is. Neither bitter nor astringent, just deliciously smooth.

Tasting #2 – Steep Time 6 Minutes
Its not bitter, its bamboo! A distinct aftertaste similar to bamboo.

Tasting #3 – Steep Time 8 Minutes
This tea is very green with no bitterness, no astringency, even after steeping all this time. Very smooth with a full mouthfeel that is unique to green tea. Absolutely delicious, perfect for sipping all day long.

Needed a green tea so pulled this one out. Brewed it at a slightly higher temperature than I normally do for green teas (Set the microwave for 2 and a half minutes – usually, I set it to about a minute and 45 seconds). It came out at about 178 degrees when I poured the water over the tea leaves.

I’m still getting the bitter vegetal taste I got last time I had this tea, but this time it was less bitter and more vegetal. Which I find a little odd, since it’s brewed slightly higher than last time (or maybe it’s the same and I’m a little thrown off because of the 5-degree increments on Steepster).

It’s a little like liquid spinach. That may not sound too appealing, but I’m enjoying it a lot. Heh, I ought to find a tea that tastes like liquid tomato (not tomato water – too weak on the tomato flavor).
