Passionfruit Jasmine

This most definitely tastes of “exotic tropical fruit.” It’s lightly sweet and smells very good. The tea base is pretty light. It’s okay hot but cold it’s really good. Continues the preference I seem to have for fruit teas only when cold.

This is a backlog from this morning. It’s actually been fairly hectic at work today, and more than anything, I’m sort of looking forward to doing nothing.
Anyway, I brewed this up this morning in an attempt to get through as many samples as possible. actually, I’m not “getting through” them so much as I’m just tasting them and moving on, but it is what it is.

This is a black-green blend, and so I was a wee bit nervous as I’m not typically drawn to anything green. Nevertheless, I brewed it as per keychangeness.
The dry leaf smells of a generic tropical fruit concoction. Having said that, it doesn’t smell at all artificially flavoured or scented. I let it steep for five minutes, and the result was sort of like a hot tropical punch (although it was a bit creamy thanks to, you know, the cream that I added). It sort of reminded me of a hot version of a bubble tea; I could definitely picture it having tapioca balls floating around in it. I can’t really taste the black or green base, nor can I really detect any jasmine. having said all of this, it’s a perfectly acceptable tea, and is actually quite pleasant. I imagine it would actually be quite delightful iced, but I don’t ever ice my teas, so I’m either going to happily finish up the sample (but not repurchase as I’m not a huge fruit tea fan), or put it in a swap pile to send it off to someone who will enjoy cold-brewing it.

This won first for an iced tea category at the North American Tea Championship, and I can see why. This is amaaaazing iced. It’s all right hot, too, but iced it is brilliant stuff. My mother-in-law, who is a self-professed tea hater, keeps asking me to ice cups of this for her.

A floral, fruity tea. I don’t know if I got a bad batch, but I couldn’t tell this was supposed to be passionfruit and definitely couldn’t tell the jasmine was there until much later. The mix of black and green tea sort of mimic a oolong tea flavor but not really. The tea doesn’t taste bad, but I really don’t think this taste like its namesake.

I’ve been trying to streamline my iced tea making process, so I picked up a box of passionfruit jasmine iced tea pouches during my last Art of Tea order. What I love about the passionfruit jasmine in particular is that it’s a blend of black and green teas; it’s perfect for those of us who can’t decide which way they want to go. Both the black and jasmine green teas that are used as a base for this blend are mild, which really allow the slight floral notes from the jasmine and slightly sweet flavors of the passionfruit shine. This is one of those iced teas I could drink a lot of and not get bored, but even if I did I still have eight other flavors to choose from.

Trying brewed hot first. Though after reading some comments while waiting for it to steep I kinda wish I had just done cold. So far I agree that it is nothing special when its hot. In fact its kinda mediocre hot. As it starts to cool off the flavor is improving. A bit of honey would really make it great!

Not much to say about this one, it’s just okay. Mild black tea with hints of passion fruit flavor but not much jasmine. I think I’m just usually spoiled with Teavivre’s jasmine teas so any other jasmine teas…. the jasmine is just non-existant. I’m surprised there was green tea listed in the ingredients… I couldn’t tell at all.

Generally, I try to avoid blends like this (blends that have 2 types of tea in them, in this case, a black tea and a green tea) because to brew it properly to get the full flavor from the black tea, I would probably scorch the green tea and cause it to be bitter. So I instead brew it at the lower temperature and add an extra minute or so onto the brew time so that I can (hopefully) achieve flavor without bitterness.

That said, this is actually a pretty tasty blend. I like the combination of jasmine and passionfruit. The passionfruit is sweet and the jasmine adds a soft, beautiful floral note to the cup. The black tea is the strongest flavor of the tea base (not surprising) but I can still taste the green tea. It’s a softer taste for a black tea (again, not surprising because of the lower brew temp), but I still get a nice black tea flavor as well as a pleasing buttery note from the green tea.

Overall, a pleasant cup. I don’t know that I’d order it again. But I enjoyed what I had of it. It’s really good iced.
