It seems to be my least favourite of all Ahmad fruit teas I’ve tasted so far. Bland, watery, not only with almost no apple flavour, but also with almost no base black tea in the back. Only slight maltiness and traces of artificial apple.
Huge disappointment.

This is my first time trying this tea. My first sips, hot and unsweetened, have a lightness, and a bit of astringency, not much apple, though it’s there in the background. Pleasant, but unremarkable.
Having added a teaspoon of sugar to the cup, the apple is now pronounced! The sweetness heightens the fruitiness, brings it to the forefront. I had bought this box of tea because apples are everywhere, it being harvest time in autumn. But for now, drinking this hot, it seems like more of a springtime, light refreshing tea.
I shall have to try it iced, to see what my response will be then. For now, it is a pleasant, enjoyable light tea, only mildly apple flavored—until it’s sweetened, and then one really tastes the apple. A nice choice for an afternoon pick-me-up. Just not a cup for something more bracing; look elsewhere for autumn!

I don’t know what I think of this tea. On first sip, I thought I loved it. Very apple-y, nice and fruity. But then the bitter from the black tea came in in full force and it just does not mash well in my opinion, it tastes spoiled. A bit of milk mellowed it out and made it drinkable again, but it certainly was a ride of good vs bad…

Samurai TTB #1

It feels like Christmas came early with this huge box of teas to try! I didn’t have time to go through the TTB properly yesterday, so I just grabbed a handful of teabags to take to the office with me. This was the first one I tried. The name is very appropriate; this is a refreshing, lightly flavored black tea that tastes like a whole Granny Smith apple. No caramel or cinnamon, just lots of appley goodness on a nice smooth base.

Samurai Travelling Tea Box – Tea #5

When Shae asked me if there were any teas in her cupboard that I wanted to try, I must have really been craving apple teas because I ended up asking for A LOT of apple blends; apple cinnamon and apple ginger in particular…

I’m glad she added this one in though – it’s a tea bag and without having the chance to sample in this type of format, it’s a tea that I would have likely passed up/ignored. However, I thought the flavour was really nice this afternoon and of the five teas I’ve tried from the box so far it was actually my favourite!

Simple in execution – this is basically a medium to full bodied and slightly astringent black tea coupled with a consistent sweet green apple flavour and a hint of something floral to the undertone. It’s rare to get a green apple tea without any tartness/sourness, but that’s what this tastes like to me and I really appreciated it!

Apple Refresh is a light, nearly floral aromatic experience. This black tea offers a body that blends apple flavor with light astringency when brewed properly.

Nothing about the flavor seems artificial or forced, which is very nice. The apple is very strong on the nose but the body yields this scent to remind you that this is a flavored black tea and not a fruit infusion.

This is a delightful afternoon pick me up or compliment to snacking. I would purchase a box on its own for summertime enjoyment or a very pleasant iced tea.

I oversteeped this so it came out bitter, but the apple flavor is pronounced and unique. It doesn’t taste like apples, more like green apple candy. I don’t really like the flavor.

Hmph. I could’ve sworn I’ve reviewed this one … because I know y’all are impatiently waiting for my official pronouncement before you decide whether to imbibe or not.

Do. It’s quite pleasant. Subtle Granny Smith apple peel, but neither unpleasantly bitter nor painfully tart. Perfect on a scratchy throat induced by heat wave + inconsistent AC at work. I’ve been either sweltering or shivering for two solid weeks.

This was a nice tea. Very simple, but still nice.

The apple aroma changed a lot from dry to wet, going through stages of bitter granny smith apple to sour sherbet to sweet apple laces. The taste was a bit of a mix of them all.

I appreciated how full the black tea base is. I thought a rich tea base might clash with the vibrant, sweet and sour apple, but actually it works really well. A lighter black tea or green tea would have let the sourness take control of the blend. It’s balanced well.

Not much else to say about this tea, other than it’s not refreshing in the slightest. I’d rename it “Apple Boost”.

I’ll finish the little box I’ve got of this tea in the early afternoons. I’ve been carefully cutting the wrappers to save them for Martin, storing them in an envelope that probably won’t be big enough by the time I’m finished! It’s highly satisfying seeing my tea bag wrappers cut perfectly and left whole – not sure why. I’ve always been a bit like that. I like order and symmetry and organisation and keeping careful records. I’ve been known to create a spreadsheet organiser just for fun.
