Description

Colombia began growing tea back in the early 1950s, when the local Ministry of Agriculture imported tea plants from Ceylon to help diversify Colombian agriculture. In 2018, Agricola Himalaya (Bitaco)® Tea was able to present the first Green Tea Line grown 1,800 – 2,050 meters above sea level at Bitaco. The Bitaco® tea plantation is located near the Equator, in a thriving, protected rainforest, Bitaco Regional Forest Reserve (Reserva Forestal Protectora Regional de Bitaco) in the region of Chocó. The region is characterized by a high level of rainfall and outstanding bio-diversity. The tea is grown in volcanic soil that naturally promotes lush plant growth. The consistent climate and ideal soil conditions result in a sumptuous production of tasty, delicate teas all year round.

Agricola Himalaya (Bitaco)® Tea works with the local community through the non-profit AGRICOLA HIMALAYA FOUNDATION to develop programs focused on education, especially for local children. It also means improving local infrastructure, recreation, culture and access to technology. The Fund promotes the improvement of education in rural areas and supports professional studies for the region’s young people. Among the more important activities are the development of training centres with modern libraries, computer rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, sports fields and a scholarship for higher education.

A rich soft black tea with a spicy sweetness and beautiful large leaves.

We do not recommend this tea with milk.
