Latte Sipdown (387)

A Quarter to Tea had a series of sweet potato or gingerbread type teas. All spiced in a very similar way. This is no exception. It is making for a nice latte, all warm and a touch bready but honestly I feel like I have had this before. It’s tasty but not anything that stands out among the rest.

Sipdown (593)!

Yes – getting in some seasonally appropriate sipdowns! Finished this one off as a pot of tea, all snuggled up in bed. This has such a strong cinnamon/cassia flavor, it’s really the driving force in this tea instead of the ginger that’s also present. And yet there’s something that, despite all the cinnamon, still reads as very “ginger bread like” to me. Plus, it is actually kind of creamy!? So, the latte component isn’t totally lost either.

This was probably the best “holiday cup of tea” I’ve had so far in terms of flavor combined with actually making me feel like it’s truly Christmas time. Also, side note because I don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but I swear there’s sparkles in this tea!? Like, in the sprinkles or something – because each cup that I poured out had that same glistening/sparkly quality that the OG recipe for Glitter & Gold had.

Huh.

Well, this tea’s sure punchy! The dry tea smells a bit like Eggnog Poundcake at first, but there’s definitely more spicing. The flavour doesn’t draw the same comparison – the spices are powerful here, particularly cloves. Any latte creaminess that might be present is definitely drowned out by the spicing – it’s really all I can taste. I might have overleafed a touch, which has made for a nearly undrinkable cup – so I decided to add some milk and vanilla agave (a freebie from DavidsTea a while ago)! Best decision ever. This tea becomes a delightfully gingerbready chai (still verrryyy heavy on cloves, I think). I only have a small pouch of this, but I suspect I’ll finish off the rest in this manner, as it’s just a little too much to drink straight.

Rating as a straight tea: 67
Rating with milk and sweetener: 78 (I’m going with this one).

sometimes i wonder why tea companies bother calling teas X latte….i mean rarely do they taste like lattes unless you brew them in milk. This one isn’t too much to my liking. I’m not really getting a gingerbread feel from it, and certainly not “latte” It’s not a bad tea but it’s really heavy on the spice, without that sort of bready taste that should go along to smooth the spices out. Good to try, but not worthy of keeping around. Thanks VariaTEA!

Maybe they’re trying to tell us to brew it as a latte?
