Cantaloupe Sage Kukicha

Getting back to these AQ2T samples! I love kukicha and all things melon, so this was a no-brainer to add to my order. Hopefully the sage isn’t too powerful, as it’s not one of my favorite herbs.

This is a tasty one! It’s a smooth and sweet kukicha base with a mellow grassy flavor. The melon here is definitely cantaloupe, which is a nice change from the more common honeydew flavoring. Overall, it has a nice creamy melon flavor.

The sage is fairly mild, thank goodness! And I think it does add a bit of interest, and it’s nice to have a different and more unusual flavor.

I’m not sure whether I’ll reorder this or not. It is very tasty, but I’m not sure I need multiple melon teas in my cupboard.

Refreshing and easy to drink. After my cup cooled I chugged this down pretty quick.

There seemed to be more sage in my last serving, but this tea still had a lovely balance between sweet, refreshing fruit and savoury, vegetal herb. While first and foremost grassy, the Kukicha base also adds an extra dimension of nutty, and creamy sweet, with faint peach note. The finish and aftertaste act like a palate cleanser.

Not sure I’d order this again soon, but it would make a nice addition to the summer tea cabinet.

Iced Tea Sipdown (215)!

I wasn’t totally sure whether the two flavours in this would work together; it definitely seems like a strange pairing to me. However, I was really intrigued so I did end up grabbing a sample which I made iced because I thought the cantaloupe would likely work better that way.

I have to say, I really enjoyed this one. That said, I don’t know if it was necessarily exactly what Lauren had envisioned for it/what it’s marketed as. I mean, for starters, I couldn’t really taste the sage at all. So, without the taste of sage even coming through a little bit I still can’t really answer the question of whether or not it’d work with the cantaloupe which was the most intriguing thing about the blend in the first place. The cantaloupe was great though; it really complimented the grassy notes of the Kukicha and subtle peachy undertones. I have to agree with Kittenna that if you liked the cantaloupe Butiki used, you’ll probably like it here too. I mean, no “cream” component but otherwise it works well!

I’m not at a point where I’d buy enough of this for a tin, but I don’t feel like I’m done with it either. I’d consider another sample next time I order, just to play around some more/see if I can find the sage.

Did something wrong, it seems, as this was not particularly tasty. Not really any melon or anything. Still drank it, but I’m pretty sure this was user error. At least I’d already written about it!
