Tea of the Week for February 15, 2021!

So, this is a strawberry & apple gunpowder green tea. When it came to naming the tea, I didn’t want to call it Strawberry Apple Gunpowder green tea. It just seemed too . . . boring & I am not finding this tea boring at all! It’s so yummy. Simple, yet deliciously sweet & fruity. Just because something is simple, it doesn’t make it boring. Does it?

So, I put the words strawberry & apple together to come up with Strappleberry. Then – I did a quick google search to make sure the word was – you know – OK to use & learned that the Urban Dictionary defines Strappleberry as “a fool with a problem up in his house.” Well, this tea isn’t that. So clearly, Urban Dictionary needs to update the definition.

Right?

I also learned that a major gum manufacturer has a Strappleberry flavored gum. There’s also a Strappleberry flavored vape. Now there is a Strappleberry Gunpowder green tea.

The base is our organic Gunpowder green tea. Bold & earthy. A teensy bit smoky. A nice, satisfying green tea – one of my favorites – not just from a blender’s perspective (it’s an easy tea to work with) but also from the perspective of a tea lover (I love the depth of flavor)!

To the Gunpowder, I added lots of freeze-dried apple bits (Fuji apples) & some strawberries too (mmm! Strawberries!) The result is a tasty cuppa tea – lots of fruity flavor plus the distinctively bold, earthy notes of Gunpowder!) A delight to sip!

It’s also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen-free!

organic ingredients: green tea, apples, strawberries & natural flavors

I think I need to be a bit more cautious with infusion time on this tea, which I should have known as it’s a gunpowder. It got a bit strong and astringent, and clouded the fruity flavours. There was a bit of strawberry, but it wasn’t amazing. I think it will be greatly improved with some extra attention!

This actually tastes like strawberry banana flavored juice mixed with a rather astringent green tea. Not really a flavor profile that I love.

Sipdown! (43 | 173)

Meh, this one was okay, but nothing I would feel the need to seek out.

The apple and especially the strawberry flavors are very subtle, which I’m okay with. They taste natural at least, and there’s a pleasant, lingering honeyed apple aftertaste.

The base actually reminds me of a Chinese sencha though? Very dry grassy without much else going on. For a gunpowder green tea I would expect more minerality and perhaps a bit of smokiness, but I didn’t find that here. It was cool to see the leaves unfurl though!

So the combination of the generic-tasting green base and light flavoring made this very meh for me unfortunately.
