Tea of the Week for December 26, 2016!
The green tea is a fair-trade, rainforest alliance certified single garden tea from the Satemwa estate in Malawi. Specifically, it’s their Zomba steamed green tea. It has a natural light fruitiness to it that melds well with the plum notes. The ginger is warm – but it isn’t what I’d call spicy or even hot. Not even ‘zesty.’ And I know that some of you might quibble about my choice to go light on the ginger – saying that this isn’t truly “gingered” plum and you may be right on that but I didn’t want to go heavy on the ginger. I wanted to really showcase the flavor of the plum which is a little bit tart but mostly sweet and juicy tasting. I wanted the ginger to accent the plum – give it some warmth – but not obliterate the plum with the peppery bite that ginger can be known for.
This is really nice. It tastes great served hot and also really good chilled. I find that with the chill, more of the ginger comes forward while with the hot cuppa, the ginger is more subdued. I prefer this hot – but then – I usually do prefer most teas hot! Try it both hot and cold!
