From 52teas

Organic mao zhen hair needle green tea, lemon verbena, marshmallow root, and organic flavors.

Wow, that’s a mouthful. And this tea is a mouthful of deliciousness. This organic Chinese green tea is sweet with just a hint of almost salmon-like butteriness. I’ve paired it with lemon verbena, marshmallow roots and lemon-, marshmallow- and pastry- organic flavors. Be prepared to have your socks knocked off with this one.

I see there is a swath of negative reviews for this tea. Poor tea. My experience with it has been better; I wasn’t wowed but it’s basically a somewhat creamy lemon green. Light in flavour, and IIRC a tendency to bitter. There are a fair number of teas I’d prefer to drink, though, and this is enough like Sun & Cloud Mist that I’d just take that one instead.

I almost steeped this up today. :D

nope. nope nope nope nope nope. Not sure what’s going on here but there’s a chemical like taste here – could not drink. One of frank’s blends i suspect, so would give it a shot from liberteas…but otherwise NOPE. (thank variaTEA! hahaha)

VariaTEA

This was from the kickstarter and I had the same reaction you did :(

52Teas

No, this wasn’t from the Kickstarter – I didn’t blend this.

VariaTEA

oops. Sorry guys. I guess I must have placed an order just before the takeover happened.

Sipdown (141)!

First off, thanks to all my wonderful tea friends for the birthday wishes! It made my very hungover day to see love from friends, family, and you wonderful people not only in person, on social media, but here on Steepster as well!

I had a pretty good party, from what I can remember of it. My roommates put together a massive party for me that involved going to the movies (finally saw Deadpool; was not disappointed), pre-drinking at our place, slightly drunk laser tag, and then just a full on night of solid drinking at my favourite bar. I remember everything up until the last half hour or so we were at the bar. Someone bought me four shots to drink one after the other (after already being something crazy like fifteen drinks in), and after three they cut me off because I was just… out.

I’ve been filled in on some other events of the night after I blacked out. These include literally being carried out of the bar, passing out in the back of our DD’s car and being propped against the door, another drunk friend opening the door I was propped against and then me subsequently falling face first into the pavement at full force. I’m now sporting some pretty impressive bruises, a fat lip, and cuts from the top of my head down to my chin. I also busted one of my pairs of glasses pretty badly. Thankfully, I have two pairs. Still – no regrets. I feel like this is the kind of night you’re supposed to have when you turn 19/21…

As for the tea…

Thank you VariaTea for the sample! However, this cold brew was disappointing to say the least. It honestly came out so bitter/astringent tasting with the gnarliest pith notes in addition to a very, very chemical tasting lemon flavour. So much nope. I didn’t even finish the cold brew, to be honest. Not sure where this took a bad turn; the flavourings used? The base? There’s a lot not going right…

VariaTEA

I got a lot of chemical lemon as well. I hoped you would have better luck. I debated about sending it but decided to continue the trend of sharing our 52 teas blends so I did.

Also, I have had the black out drunk nights too and they didnt end so well for me either. One time I ended with sore ribs for over a week cuz I was strapped to a gurney in an ambulance (I didn’t actually need to go to the hospital but things escalated) and another time I made the dumb mistake of trying to take a shower after I threw up into my dress and then toppled out and landed on my face. Not my finest moments though I suppose if there is any night to do it, it’s your 21st birthday?

This smells AMAZING alas the drink has a lemon pledge quality as the first taste that hits the tongue is a bitter chemical flavor. Perhaps it will mellow with time but we’ll have I wait and see.

Plunkybug

Ew. I hate when they smell good and then taste like medicine or cleaners. :(

What the freakin’ crap!? This isn’t lemon at all. Lemon my foot! I feel so betrayed! D:
This is TOTALLY orange flavor! Eww Eww Eww!
I totally smelled it when I opened the bag and I was hoping the actual taste would be different. But it wasn’t. :(
It was like drinking hot orange juice.

Glad you enjoyed my betrayed note. xD My misery tends to make people laugh for some reason…it’s a talent of mine. But better than making them just be sad too xD

This one is delicious. The lemon verbena and marshmallow root give it that fluffy citrus meringue texture. I appreciate that I can pick out the sweet green note of the Mao Zhen Hair Needle base; the green tea actually enhances the sweet lemon dessert vibe.

It’s pretty good, and definitely in the same family as my beloved Lime Jello Salad tea, and the cheery-clean Sun & Cloud Mist tea.

I’m wary of lemon teas, since many of them are super artificial and make me feel like I’m drinking lemon Pledge. But this one is lovely! Light and smooth with a true lemon flavor and a buttery sweet aftertaste that really does remind me of meringue.

Mmmm.. lemon meringue pie… wish I had some right now. This is certainly a bright sweet lemon flavor.. I think the marshmallow root also adds sweetness. It’s very delicious. The green tea works very well with the flavors but I can only imagine the natural sweet lemon of a great bai mu dan white tea would work even better. The green tea is mostly hidden underneath the flavors. The color of the cup sure looks like lemon! I should probably add a little sugar to make it better. I’d love a pastry flavor to go along with this one but I am not disappointed! A great blend but it’s a little like Sun & Cloud Mist and also the Lemon Meringue Chai (with the better name!)
Steep #1 // 30 min after boiling // 1 min steep
Steep #2 // 28 min a.b. // around 3 min steep

Tastes almost like Lemon Meringue pie that my Mom makes. I really like this one. I see others didn’t like it as much as I did when I check out the reviews.

Creamy Lemony Goodness in a cup without the artificial flavor.

Here are my thoughts on this treat:

I’ve never tried any 52teas blends so I took the plunge by purchasing… THREE of the discount grab bags. Three. It’s embarrassing just typing it but I’m trusting you guys can commiserate with ridiculous tea spending. The grab bags (6 teas each) let you try a huge variety for a cheaper price, something I’m a fan of. They must have some elves working at 52teas because there’s not a single tea in this pack that I’m not super stoked to try. And there’s no repeats!

Aaand back to the lemon meringue. This is the tea that I was far and away most excited to try. I have a thing for light, non-chocolate desserts. Sometimes with lemon teas I’m left wondering where they’re hiding the lemons but this one is a LEMON PARTY (sorry). I’m getting the marshmallow root mostly in the aftertaste. It’s all rounded out by a really nice green tea base. It’s light and airy, perfectly lemon meringue. Yum.
