P is for… Peaches & Cream Genmaicha!

An unremarkable genmaicha, definitely not one of my favourites. I was’t paying a ton of attention while drinking this, but didn’t get peach, although got some cream and obviously, genmaicha.

Another great flavored genmaicha from 52Teas. The peach in this blend is fresh and a tad tart, not at all like the canned peaches of my childhood. This brightness pairs best with the green tea in the genmaicha, popping the fresh outdoors vegetal taste alongside the sunny peach. The toasty rice flavors are there, but in the undertone, adding just a hint of warm bready notes that I love in genmaicha. Both relieved and surprised that this didn’t taste like a sugary peach pie; it is so uplifting and refreshing.

So this just came in the mail today as part of my 52 teas box. I was immediately excited as I love peaches and I love peaches and cream even more. Upon opening the package I immediately noticed the sweet peach smell and the actual pieces of peach in it. So I set about brewing it up. 1.5min/175f/2tsp/12oz

Taste is… ok not what I was expecting. It’s got a background sweetness and I can definitely taste the peach. But the flavors are conflicting. I grabbed a splenda in case I wanted to try adding that and I think I do. Well, with the splenda, the “peaches and cream” flavor really comes out, but I still feel as though it is conflicting with the genmaicha. It’s like this tea is trying to be two opposite things at once – sweet-light-fluffy and roasty-vegetal-buttery at the same time. It isn’t really working for me. It’s drinkable, but the conflicting flavors really are confusing my senses. I don’t think I will be getting more of this after all, unless it really starts to grow on me quickly.

Backlog:

This blend was just alright for me. I like the roasty-toasty, nutty flavor of genmaicha. And I love the sweet, creamy flavors of peaches and cream. But combined, they didn’t really work very well for me.

Oh, it tasted alright and I appreciated that I could taste each of the elements in the tea, but it just didn’t turn out to be a favorite flavor of mine. It wasn’t something that had me jumping up and down with excitement. Just alright. Not spectacular.

Pretty sure this is from 52Teas since there is no other tea by this name on here. xD Got a sample of this from someone,not sure who. But it doesn’t say which company this tea is from.
Didn’t really smell anything in the bag, but when it began steeping I started to smell a creamy version of genmaicha, which is just kinda weird. But I guess the name fits haha
And Never had flavored genmaicha before!
But there is a first for everything!
As for flavor, not really getting any peaches, but it definitely has a hint of cream in it…
I think I prefer regular genmaicha better-haha!
Well glad I finally tried a flavored one. :P

Thank you again, Marzipan for organizing the 52Teas grab bags! This is one Mandy and I both wanted to try that we tacked on to the order. Flavored genmaichas do seem a bit odd, but I love genmaicha so why not? I made sure to get a big peach piece into the infuser! Even with these lighter steep parameters, whoa was this a strong genmaicha! Tons of toasty genmaicha flavor along with plenty of fresh sweet peach. The dry leaves smell a bit like cream, but the flavor isn’t terribly like cream but I would imagine it added some sweetness. This one turned out exactly like I thought it would, but stronger flavor (though I could have used more creaminess)!
