Tea of the Week for October 3, 2022 / Featured Reblend for October 2022!

I’m doing things in reverse this month by presenting the featured reblend as the first tea of the week rather than the last one, since this is a Halloween inspired tea, I thought it was better to have that out earlier rather than later.

This blend was originally crafted by Frank in 2011. I stuck pretty close to the recipe (black teas, freeze-dried blueberries & marshmallow root, plus all-natural essence) although my tea base is different from the base Frank utilized & if I’m being completely honest, I think I added more blueberry than he did.

This tea is super yummy – LOTS of blueberry flavor – plus it’s organic, vegan, gluten-free & allergen-free – plus it’s all natural!

organic ingredients: black teas, blueberries, marshmallow root & natural flavors

more about this tea: this is my first time reblending this particular tea. I’ve reblended the green tea based BooBerry (and even the BooBerry Cotton Candy Green Tea) but not the tea with the black tea base. I’m happy to be sipping on this one now – because it’s so good!

I think this one may be a bit more blueberry than the original – because I wanted MORE blueberry. The blueberry here definitely comes through loud & clear! Sweet, fruity – lots of berry notes – complete with a lovely berry finish. The marshmallow is lovely as well.

I love how this tea turned out!

to brew: shake the pouch well before measuring. The blueberries like to “float” to the top of the pouch & you want to save some of those for future steeps – so make sure that your measurement isn’t all blueberry! Use 3g of tea (& blueberries!) to 12 oz of nearly boiling (205°F) & allow to steep for 2 ½ minutes. I know that lately, I’ve been embracing the 3 minute steep, but here, I would recommend a little less time because the base can get a little astringent if oversteeped. I find the flavor to be much better with just 2 ½ minutes versus the full 3 minutes.

Serving suggestion: I love this tea hot. I also love it iced. As part of my taste testing, I did cold brew some of this and loved the result. I find that while it’s nice unsweetened, just a teensy bit of sugar will bring out more marshmallow-y goodness, if that’s something you’re looking for with this one.

Currently sipping this tea with a delicious milk cap – YUM! I brewed it double strength so that the milk cap, once stirred into the tea – wouldn’t dilute the flavor of the tea, so now I have a cup of creamy, decadent, blueberry/marshmallow deliciousness with a lovely hint of cream cheese tang and a soft kiss of salt. So very, very yummy!

I still have just a few taster pouches of this tea remaining – but don’t click on the “buy now” button because that will take you to Adagio’s blackberry tea – which this is NOT! Please visit my website instead! :)

This one came in my subscription box a few months ago. I tried it once but didn’t rate it/add it to my cupboard, but I’m trying to be a bit more diligent about that so my cupboard here on Steepster eventually resembles my actual tea cupboard. :)

This one is very nice! The dry leaf smells like blueberry candy, but the brewed tea is definitely more reminiscent of real blueberries — maybe even those dried wild blueberries that are just bursting with flavor. (I’ve never had BooBerry cereal, so I cannot compare those flavors!) There’s just a bit of sweet, creamy marshmallow on the back of the sip, which rounds out the flavors nicely. The base is maaaybe a bit more astringent than I’d expect, but I’m a sucker for astringent black teas so I don’t mind. There’s also something a little bit floral? Overall, I’m enjoying this one. It’s solid, it’s flavorful, and it’s a nice morning tea.

October 2022 Reblend

I’ve never tried the black tea version of “boo-berry” (or knew that it existed until recently), so this was a cool addition to last month’s sub box.

The blueberry flavouring is an interesting juxtaposition of “fresh” and “candied” – a farmer’s blueberry pastry liberally covered in powdered sugar vs airy blue cotton candy (both are good). Imho, the tea blend’s emphasis on blueberry flavouring, the malty base, and the earthy-soft qualities of the marshmallow root all give Boo-Berry more dimensions than actual cotton candy. However, both vividly evoke a day at the carnival fair – and that’s all I want.

additional notes: Good to the last drop! How the heck did this taste like actual Booberry cereal until the very end? Amazing. Syrupy blueberry sweet marshmallowy goodness. I will miss it! This and the Frankenberry – essential Frank’s 52teas for me.

Thank you CHAroma for this tea and for swapping! I though today was going to be more productive today but I spent almost 2 hours at the gym and then had to take a nap after lunch because I was so tired out from all the exercise ;)

So anyway after waking up from my nap it seems like a cup of tea is on order. The dry leaf smells so much like I recall Boo-Berry tasting, of course it has been years but yes it smells like a blueberry flavored cereal. As for the flavor, I am definitely getting both the blueberry and marshmallow, but I felt like the black tea base got kind of bitter. I used boiling water and steeped for around 3 minutes and also used a pretty big sample for a large mug of tea. Anyhoo, I liked this better after adding soymilk and a little coconut sugar which helped cut down on the bitterness a bit. Not my favorite thing from 52 yeas but I am enjoying the blueberry flavor.

It is really old so that may have contributed to the bitterness. Wow, 2 hours in the gym?! Those days are past for me! I’m lucky to get 30-45 minutes in now. You go girl!

CHAroma- that is really rare for me but I want to start doing longer hikes and am trying to build up my stamina.

That’s awesome! I’m concentrating on speed right now. I’m pretty out of shape after giving birth to my daughter 6 months ago, so I can only run about a 12 minute mile. I’m trying to run faster each day till I’m under 10 minutes. I’m basically doing intervals to push myself a little faster. It’s hard but worth it, right? That’s what I tell myself anyway. :)
