I found this to be a very boring chai, more spicy than flavorful. I like my chai complex, and the short ingredient list and overly-spicy scent to the loose tea didn’t get me excited for the decidedly lackluster cup I ended up having. Even with generous helpings of milk and honey, little flavor or aroma came through but pure spicy cinnamon and cardamom.

This tea’s got a strong vanilla (bean, not the sweet flavoring) scent to it that comes through well enough in the taste of the liquor, but the black tea base is weak and I found myself disappointed with every cup after smelling the loose tea to get myself excited. Okay, but not something I’d purchase again.

Nothing special to speak of hot – though it does fill the room with a very pleasant strawberry aroma – but ice this and mix it with some strawberry simple syrup and you’ve got a fantastic summer treat. I keep this one on hand constantly.

This can be had for about $4 per 100 bags at the local CVS on occasion, so I typically make Southern-style sweet iced tea from it. I’d never dream of drinking it hot – it’s not particularly bad, but it is exceedingly bland.

I’m normally very pleased with Ching Ching Cha’s teas and have learned to acclimate my demanding American tongue to the generally mild flavors they offer, but this tea is weak in scent, weak in flavor, and doesn’t even have the classy attractive look of most genmaicha due to the leaves being far too small and way too much “tea dirt” in the bottom of the bag. Pass.

Now, I’ve only tried (to date) one other variety of genmaicha to compare this to (which greatly paled in comparison), but this tea’s perfectly toasty, smooth green flavor and strong pleasant scent was enough for me to declare genmaicha one of my favorite varieties of tea right from the first sip. I’ve drank a cup of this every afternoon since first discovering it months ago and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, though I may switch to other brands’ genmaicha.

This made for an unimpressive hot cup, but as soon as I poured it over ice I was in love. There’s unfortunately not much tea flavor to be spoken for here, but the fruit flavors come out in a perfectly mild manner with – most importantly, and the biggest downfall of iced greens in my experience – just the right amount of astringency. I haven’t purchased this again since running out of that initial bag, but I’d definitely recommend this to a friend.

This was one of the first teas I ever tried, and it’s still something I (somewhat guiltily, having long since switched to loose-leaf) reach for when I’m sick. The flowery chamomile notes come through strong in aroma, but the taste is all about the honey and vanilla – so much so that my ex-girlfriend to this day makes fun of me for liking “that cookie tea” so much.

This tea greatly surprised me; I picked it up from a truck stop in St. Louis, MO on my way to the airport after running out of all the tea I’d brought with me on the trip. I purchased it alongside several other pouches of Revolution varieties and tried it third or fourth in line, expecting it to have the same mediocre steep I’d gotten out of the others. Not so!

The apricot and safflower flavors dominate the taste of this infusion, while the lovely floral scent was strong enough to get the stewardess to ask me what I was drinking – from a window seat! The oolong flavor is much less smoky/roasty than you’d expect looking at it, and comes through strong under the fruit flavors to be one of the more satisfying bagged teas I’ve yet to try.

Note: What I had did not bear the “Bonita” name, but this tea smells and looks the same as the plain old Peach Rooibos I purchased.

Not being a huge rooibos fan at the time, I largely purchased this tea because I was curious how green rooibos differed from the traditional red. I was surprised to find I liked it quite a bit more than the previous rooibos infusions I’d tried; not having a strong basis of comparison, I can’t comment on how well the green rooibos flavor came out but none of the advertised ingredients seemed particularly overwhelming and the cup did have a satisfying, if mild, peach flavor to it that was great for just before bedtime. Not something I’m likely to keep in stock, but I didn’t regret the purchase.

This is the joint account of Cash and Chris, two American University seniors and roommates with a love of tea and a shared collection that makes two separate accounts pretty pointless. Each tasting note is signed by which one of us wrote it.
