1629 Tasting Notes
Finished this up today! Farewell Houjicha! Sad but a part of me is happy I’m finished with another can of tea! It’s incredible how much tea I’ve accumulated over the past few months-years. This one was a nice roasted green. Very warm nutty and toasty in flavor, and it lent itself to blending very well. I often liked mixing this with lemongrass, like today! I steeped this 3 times in a big mug. I might venture to purchase this again one day, but not anytime soon.
Preparation
I rarely reach for this since it always depends on my mood. It’s raining out, so I reached for this. It smells very earthy and dark, and I love how each mini cake is wrapped up. Very cute >_<! Generally for this tea, I like to infuse in short amounts of time. I usually don’t like the first infusion… it is too bitter and strong, though I imagine it might taste ok if I added milk and sugar. (note to self: try that next time!) The second infusion is my favorite.
On second infusion, it smells earthy and musty but a little sweet too. I love the sweet-like taste I get. The aftertaste is good as well. :)
Preparation
So how much tea does each mini pu-ehr cake make? a pot? a cup?
I have zilch experience when it comes to pu-ehr, unfortunately.
This was my first experience with Pu-ehr! It makes a lot. the first infusion is so dark and i only steep it for a few seconds! You can make a large pot with each mini pu-ehr. I can steep this about 4-5 times with a small teapot (serving size for one) or what I usually do is steep in a regular sized mug 2-3 times. If you want a cake, I can send you one! There are so many. Let me know :)
I’d LOVE to try one! My email is [email protected] drop me a line and I’ll give you my address (I don’t feel comfortable posting it here). You can also have a look at my tea Cupboard and see if there’s anything you’d like in exchange. :)
I made this spiced over the stove today. Boiled water with cloves, cardamom, black peppercorn, allspice, cinnamon stick… added sugar and some African Pride Tea! Then added a lot of milk and let that simmer. :) SO delicious. I love making and drinking this tea. Spiced chai made over the stove tastes the best IMO.
Preparation
This tastes a lot better when steeped for about 2 minutes. I added a packet of brown sugar. I ate baked sweet potato with this, and it tasted great together. The spices were more subdued compared to when I steeped it for longer. Also, I could taste the black tea better.
