Sorry but I want to know what tea company it is, and I think it should be posted here. It is the same as a tea review, the company is part of the deal. They need to take Paypal, adding a Paypal button is not hard.
well if you really want to know then I will tell you through PM
Sure. I’d like to know, but if you say it in the open I guarantee a Paypal button will be added to that site real soon.
I would also be interested to know what company has been compromised. I’ve had trouble with my information getting out before, so I’d rather not have a repeat if I can absolutely help it.
I’m in agreement. If a company is going to have an online presence, they should take steps to ensure that their customers are safe.
stop buying tea from Target.
I am fortunate to have a good bank because I’ve had my bank account compromised on more than one occasion and they’re good about getting the charges reversed. You do have to do a couple of extra steps in the process though, fill out paperwork, and I usually have to get a new bank card which is the worst part of it because I’m without the card for five to ten days – however long it takes for the new card to generate and arrive via mail. It usually doesn’t take longer than five days but depending upon when the transactions took place … it has taken longer.
I would advise anyone who shops online to visit your bank online frequently to make sure that no unusual charges are being made. So long as you catch them in a timely manner, you can usually take steps to reverse the charges.
Very well said! Thank you for reiterating that for me! It can happen with any company online. Just have to be cautious over buying online is the point of this thread (:
The company in question does take Paypal.
Yeah so if anyone is nervous just use pay pal (:
Could you please PM me the name of the company as well? I was thinking of buying tea from three new companies and I would hate for something like that to happen :o
Perhaps it’s time to say it out laud instead of sending 10’s of PM. I’m hoping it’s not my company, but if it is, I sure would like to know. If you are sending a bunch of PM, it looks like everyone will know who it is except the company itself. It would be nice to let them know what is going on so they have a chance to fix it, if it’s truly a problem on their side, or at least give them a chance to defend themselves. As of now it’s starting to look like you are trying to tell everyone where not to shop which can be VERY damaging to any company. Just put it in the open. Hacking to companies is no longer something out of ordinary. If they can break into Target that has millions to spend on protecting the data, I do not see ANY small tea company that has a chance to defend them-self. It’s sad, but this kind of thing is becoming a part of life now.
Definitely, you might have been the first person to I’d this company as the source of the problem. If you or others who are aware of the issue only share it among yourselves, the retailer may remain unaware of the problem and you may do damage to their reputation rather than protect it. Contact the retailer and ensure that they are aware of the issue.
Like I have said before, I am not going to be posting the name of the company because it’s a problem with the system and not the actual company. A few people wanted to know, but they all took it well and it won’t hinder them from buying from that company. I don’t want to state the name publicly because any new person on here might see it and just decide that it’s a bad tea company-and that WOULD hurt their business.
I posted this thread as a cautionary warning for people to remember to be checking their credit card bills because it can happen so easily. It wasn’t meant to be a slam at any company at all. You can ask anyone that knows now, and they will tell you that I wasn’t attacking the company or anyone. I encouraged people to still buy from there. And if they are nervous, they should use PayPal. I’m sorry if this thread has offended you in any way. It was meant to be a reminder to buyers on here, and that is all.
I support your decision Ost but highly recommend as i stated before to contact the company. Not only Target, Amazon and Chase was hacked not long time ago. Its not companies fault. but they need to know
Yeah, I just got up. xD I’m definitely emailing them today, boychik.
Ost I hope I didn’t come across as slamming you, I didn’t intend to and you message about caution is well taken. I understand that you are concerned about protecting the companies reputation and I applaud you for that. You just seemed hesitant about contacting them and I want to encourage you to do so. Give them the chance to address the issue and contact their customers in an appropriate manner.you haven’t offended me at all.
Oh no, you didn’t offend me at all. I totally understand what you’re saying. I haven’t had time to email them just yet. But I’m going to today. I was a wee bit hesitant about all of this, but this thread is the final push to do the right thing and email them. And i really appreciate all of you guys for that. So thanks. I just am sorry that all of this made so much drama and everything…
I don’t think a company has any risk of losing business if they take Paypal.
Just for all of your piece of mind, I emailed the company. So just remember to keep an eye on your credit card bills and if you are ever worried, just go through PayPal. You should be fine (:
When placing an online order make certain the site is https NOT http! The s stands for secure.
Also, look for a padlock icon and an SSL encription certificate.
Recently, I’ve discussed this topic w/ 2 popular steepster suppliers that weren’t yet https. They both planned to upgrade. I placed phone orders w/ both.
Kinda surprised they weren’t https for checkout. A lot of cart software demands that the url be secure or it won’t work.
No, their checkout was not https.
this site is https checkout if i have the site right
Actually the https is only part of the security and only secures the transition of data between you and the company server. After that, it’s a matter of how secure the server is, what info is being stored and how easily a hacker can get to that info. I work for an online business and for this exact reason I refuse to keep any credit card info on our servers. It may be a little less convenient for our customers – having to retype their card info each time they purchase – but it is much more secure.
The problem with purchasing at any online business is that you don’t know what they are saving and where they are storing it.
Excellent points! Thanks!
Please don’t attempt to pressure Ost to post the name of the company here in the forum. If Ost doesn’t mind replying to the PMs and that’s how Ost prefers to answer the question, then that’s how it should be done. I would feel very uncomfortable calling out a company that is a genuinely awesome company for this, because I’m absolutely certain beyond a doubt (knowing which company it is) that this company was not responsible for it.
Things happen and there are a lot of bad people in the world that are looking for somewhere to hunt and someone to prey upon, and hacks can happen … you just need to be very careful and vigilant, be sure to check your accounts regularly. If you catch the hack in time, your bank should have measures in place that can allow you to recoup your money. My bank does. It requires a little work on my part, I have to fill out forms and stuff and usually my card is cancelled and I have a new one reissued. It’s a pain but, it’s a protective measure, and I’d rather go through this once every few years than not have the freedom of shopping online.
It’s not the tea company’s fault that there are bad people out there, so Ost is right to not post their name here.
I agree with you Liberties but I would like to add that most of the time co mpanies get slammed in the Media with regards to a hack, it is not that the site was hacked, we all know that this is unfortunately all to common, it is usually with regards to failing to inform their customers in a timely manner about the hack.
Yes! Thank you so much for posting this! Definitely not the company’s fault. Hackers just suck and need to get off of technology ><
Ost, could you please PM me the company’s name? I avoid saving credit card info on sites but sometimes I miss the “Save card info” box by accident.
