What Brought You To Steepster?
I’d started seeing pumpkin teas around (from Republic of Tea and Celestial Seasonings, I think) and was really curious about the concept. I started out searching for reviews online and ended up here. I lurked for a few months before joining.
At the time, Fortnum & Mason and Lupicia were the only non-grocery brands I was really familiar with (well, Mariage Frères too but I’d never tried anything from them). I’d never even heard of some of the biggies like DAVIDs and Teavana and Adagio. Since joining, I’ve found out about so many awesome smaller companies, and my stash has probably quadrupled. And it’s been wonderful meeting other tea lovers, both online and in person via the meetups I’ve attended.
I never did try either of those pumpkin teas I was so curious about in the beginning, although I’ve tried some others.
I honestly don’t quite remember lol, but I believe it was a google search as many others have also done. Whatever it was, I’m incredibly happy I did find it, as I’ve found so many lovely teas and people! And my tea knowledge has increased so much :) lol, and this year I’m buying tea for everyone for Christmas :D thanks Steepster!
I was looking for info on a couple teas, just using google… and I found all these reviews! So awesome. I signed up for an account as soon as I realized that there was this awesome community. So glad I did.
This was right after a friend had introduced me to DavidsTea last winter. I’m so glad that I found this site, as I’ve had the chance to try so many awesome teas and share them with family and friends. :)
I wanted a tea forum – somewhere I could talk tea with people and get ideas and suggestions for teas I’ve never tried before
So I found Steepster and its helped me in many ways even if it has opened me up to the many weird and wonderful flavoured teas that you drink in the US and how there are many cultural differences but yet we still have an appreciation of the same drink.
Every time I take an interest in something I tend to look for a forum in the subject. I’ve had good luck in finding lots of great & helpful people in a variety of subjects. I often find you learn more from those interested in the same topic than just searching the web.
I became interested in the different varieties and flavors of teas when I tried a tea I found on clearance at my grocery store that was like nothing I had ever tried before. I decided to do some research on teas, which immediately made me think to see if there was a forum.. the rest is history. :)
I so agree that forums where “real” everyday people of all sorts gather to be enthusiastic together about a particular subject are boatloads more useful than just random googling information! There’ve been many different ones through the years for me (everything from baking to kitchen equipment to indie rock to cocktails to cat rescue), and I have fond memories of all of them.
pretty sure it was metafilter, but i can’t remember why i was looking at the post that mentioned it as it’s years old IIRC. huh. anyway, i’m so glad i checked it out because i love it here.
Almost 20 yrs ago I bought Jacksons of Piccadilly Earl Grey in Zabars but wasnt able to find it ever since. So started browsing, looking for some reviews and sources and that how I found out about Steepster. Since then my collection skyrocketed from 10-12 to almost a 100. my numbers are always high because i drink only the best tea. thank you Steepsterers!
I was trying to find some information on a tea I was gifted, but it was discontinued so the first Google result was the page here. I realized this was a big site of like minded individuals and dove in!
great topic idea!
I actually found steepster because a steepsterite suggested it to me on another site in a thread that was all about tea! And once I discovered david’s (and learned that pretty much anyone could make tea), the rest was history. I love this place! The generosity, the humour, the ideas.
