Can someone help me with some questions I have about Red Leaf Tea Company

I’ve never ordered flavored matcha from them before and am just overwhelmed with all the custom options….
such as:

Delicate, Distinctive, Robust flavor options.
and the different types of matcha qualities are they just quality differences or caffeine level differences….

and do they have any sugar in them?

The flavour options are just how much of the flavouring oils you want added to the matcha (example: so much that all you can taste is the flavouring and none of the matcha, or just a tad so you get a hint of flavouring but can still experience the matcha).

As for Matcha Qualities, it’s a bit of a misnomer; Red Leaf offers a few different grades of matcha, but also the choice to use other stone-ground teas. White, red and black ‘matcha’ are ground white tea, ground rooibos, and ground black tea respectively. It doesn’t have to do with caffeine content, although there will be some natural variation (and of course rooibos is caffeine-free).

Each individual tea has a checklist on the right-hand side on whether or not it uses sweeteners of any kind. It looks like most, if not all, do not, (although this could mean ‘no sweeteners added on top of any sweetener found in the flavouring’; I’m sure if you email with a specific tea in mind they’ll be able to give you a better breakdown).

No sugar in them, though the matchaccino/matcha drink mix has sweetener in them.

For flavor level I suggest Distinct or Robust, but do not do Robust for fruity flavors as it is just really strong and weird tasting. Delicate is a hint of flavor.

I would recommemd that you get your matcha tea from Japan.

For comparison, David’s Tea is offering Peach, Strawberry and Blueberry. They also have Vanilla and a Mint one, I believe. With sugar.

My own opinion is that matcha is best enjoyed by itself. Having a fruit treat next to it, is an option too.

Ugh. Don’t get the organic version – it tastes like dirt! I honestly wasn’t happy with a lot of their products. And their classic grade didn’t taste like much, so you’ll mainly be getting the added flavour taste, but that might be what you’re after. Their plain Kennin matcha is pretty good though.

A good rule of thumb is the higher the quality the less flavor. So if you got the basic flavor, Distinct or Robust is fine, but if you upgraded I would go with Delicate. Depends on how much “green tea” taste you like in your tea. Sugar you would have to add yourself but I fine it tastes plenty good without.
