The Early July TeaLog Catchup !

Hankering after a peach tea, I was wishing this was a better peach tea. I might have done something different but I liked it this time more than I remember liking it. Strong black tea, a kinda candied/faux peach rather than fresh peach. Good but not great.

2nd steep: approx 15 mins.

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 3 min, 30 sec

Backlogging. 10 days ago. Wednesday morning.

The February Backlog: From the 1st to today.

The night before I had been thinking it was time to try the smokey earl grey again. But then I thought why not smokey with other fruits. My initial thought was smokey Black & Blue but I went with smokey peach first. Omg it came out really good. Both steeps. Some slight ash tasting at points when cooled too much. But so good overall. I used normal amount of leaf to make a mug of this and 1/4 that amount of Caravan.

Of course, I’m missing a whole slew of backlogged tea notes. At least it’s summer and I’m not drink as much tea as usual. Wait.. What am I saying? That is NOT a good thing.

So a mid-afternoon thunderstorm brought on more of the headache I’d had all day and a cup of tea became necessary. I’ve had this tea before several times but just have not logged it yet. My mom brought me TST’s Raspberry Black back from a trip to Savannah and she brought this for herself so of course I took a sample of it home with me too to enjoy.

It’s been awhile since I’ve had it though and I can’t remember how long I used to steep it for. I thought around 3 mins but I know I steep the Raspberry Black around 4 mins so I went with that. I do remember that I thought the peach was kind of artificial tasting before.

However, it was much better than I remembered this time. Which is good. Both because I enjoyed it and because I’ll likely drink the remainder of what I have left quicker now.

The July TeaLog Catchup !

Continuing in the more leaf instead of longer steep time vein, this tea also came out very good. But then again, this is always a good one to me.

2 steeps.

First time in awhile that I haven’t started my day off with a moka coffee latte. Yesterday, I wasn’t feeling it and had a strong cup of this. It was as enjoyable as I remember it. Two steeps.

Yesterday I picked this tea to drink because I hadn’t had it in awhile and it was a fave of mine before. I notice I’ve only logged it once, I think I was drinking during The Great Unlogged Period and I haven’t had it since. Wow.

So sometimes you remember really liking a tea then you don’t have it for awhile and when you do again, that isn’t the case. That is, you might still like but not as omg so good much. That totally wasn’t the case with this tea. I thoroughly enjoyed my mugs of it yesterday as much I used to.

Coming up next: I had Harney & Sons’ Ginger Peach black tea for the first time this morning! Yum!

2nd steep: 20+ mins

That’s a long second steep – did you forget about it? ;)

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

lol Nope. I found a bit before Christmas that, for me, just leaving black teas steeping 20+ mins somehow gives a fuller flavored 2nd steep (for those blacks that do 2nd steep okay) than just adding several minutes to the original steep time. Idk why this is so. But it works for me. lol So I’ve just been putting them on to steep, noting when 20 mins is from that time, and coming back sometime after the 20 mins is up. For some teas, it’s a noticeable difference to me and for others, not as much. It’s just become common practice.

Okay, that was waaay too long an explanation. The first time I did it though, it was an accident. And I was just really pleased with the results. So I tried it again with the same tea the next time I made it. Then other teas. Also, since it’s a second steep, the black teas do to get bitter with the lengthy time.

Backlog. 14 days ago – Sunday morning. (And yes, my backlog of jotted down tasting notes has grown. But it’s not that long.)

I was fishing a tea I was going to drink out of the tea annex the other day and I saw this and thought I really like that tea and I haven’t drank it in awhile.

2nd steep: 9 mins.
