as instructed: brought kettle to rolling boil, let sit 6 min, then steeped tea.
so nice to see a teabag that tells you how to get the right temp for white tea!
brew up a lovely pink/purple with a good tart/sweet balance and clean dry finish. not bad for bagged grocery store tea! then again I grew up w Safeway so I’m partial to them and miss them!
Preparation
I do not like this tea. I purely bought it as it was onsale and it had a nice tin.
It tastes very red rooibos strong and the orange tastes like fake powdered koolaid or tang.
However, tonight I just wants lots of cheap iced tea. I steeped up 2 bags, poured over ice and smashed an entire orange in there. Now it tastes better, like real orange, but the rooibos is still way too strong.
Preparation
Okay, the trick to this tea is a 1 minute steep at 175, with a slice of lemon.
The flavor is lighter, but less chance for icky baggy mulchy green taste. The floral here is nice and the lemon slice adds freshness. OHH YEAH. I went with this tea because I’m lazy. Me + bagged tea = lazy times.
Once I’m done – I GET THE NICE TIN! Prettttty tin (once I remove the safeway label)! Crap, hate when I buy teas just for the freaking tin!
Sigh, gave in. My family has been pestering me. I’m starting a tea blog. I was worried on time constraints, but I figured out a style. See how it goes, still working on the design. I’ll post more once its up.
Preparation
I bought this tea back in Canada as it came in a nice tin and it was on sale.
This tea comes in those meshy clear triangle tea bags.
Flavor wise, fairly light and mostly floral. I get a hit of jasmine and a little earl grey essence as an aftertaste. The green tea base is fair, but really background to the floral.
Okay tea for bagged stuff from a grocery store – more excited for the tin once I’m done this tea! LOL
Preparation
I think I am starting to become aware of the scent of rooibos and honeybush teas, because when the tin is opened you are hit in the face with a distinct honeybush scent followed closely by red rooibos. As for orange or caramel scent there is nothing there, but I have never been let down by a Safeway product yet; so onward I trudge.
I went for a cold steep today, since it is FLIPPING hot out and I can wait for this while I sip what is left of the passion tea lemonade I made yesterday.
This tea is pretty to watch as it cold steeps, all the loverly amber colourd liquor slip sliding around the icecubes to pool at the bottom of my glass is almost mesmerising (I even forgot about the knife I was holding while making salad for din-din) Once I stirred and added a little simple syrup, I was fully let down by the lack of orange and caramel flavours I was waiting to taste.
But I will not shelf this one indefinantly just yet, as I am thinking a hot steep tonight will bring out the caramel and orange flavours.
Same teabag, steeped with hot water, as soon as the hot water hit the leaves I could smell caramel and orange… My rating just went up!
EWWW dish water flavor!! I thought it tasted like woodchips mixed with orange tang. The tin is really nice – I ended up tossing the tea and reusing the tin. I didn’t want to inflict the tea on others.
Sounds like they tried to reel you in with the presentation & forgot to think about the tea. Yikes!
Nassss-tay!
Oh wow, that is quite unfortunate.
