Sipdown! i am all over the place today so some teas i’m getting time to write about, others i’ll catch up on later when work lets me take a breather. I had this one cold brewed just to make sure i don’t like it. I think this is officially the first of the purearoma teas i just don’t really like. I feel like i SHOULD like it..but it’s just not to my tastes. It’s really just a preference thing, nothing wrong with the tea just something about the combination of spices and fruitiness that i’m not down with. oh well! can’t love every tea or my cupboard would be insane!

Backlogging from last night. I apparently drank this and forgot to log it. Not a bad little tea though it’s not my favourite. i think that’s much more because of my tastes rather than the tea itself. Once again purearoma seems to have gotten the art of tea + flavours down pat.

SIPDOWN on this one since i’m kind of cheating and the rest will be going out for terri to try. :) Such is the benefit of being able to share teas with my tea sister! I quiet enjoyed this one though i can’t for the life of me remember anything about it since i had it more than 12 hours ago. At the end of the day it had to have been at least middle of the road since i don’t remember disliking it and i finished it off over the course of my incredibly stupidly busy morning :)

Dug this out of the cupboard this morning for my black tea to take to work. This one isn’t half bad and in a pinch would work as a decent every day tea…if i didn’t already have a few favourites in that department. That being said though, it’s still a lovely tea and didn’t have any sort of astringency to deal with.

Sipdown! 828.

Hot/cold-brewed this one, and it was marvellous. I stand by my previous statement that this is better than DT’s Tropicalia – there’s a bit of a carmelliness to it that’s absolutely delicious. It didn’t fare super well in my travel mug (it came camping with me), but I’m not surprised, as mugs seem to deaden flavours for whatever reason. It definitely still drank it though! And if I end up making another PureAroma order, I’m quite certain I’ll pick up more of this. The only downside is that it’s heavy…. but that’s a downside to all fruity blends. And at least this one isn’t packed with hibiscus filler!

Another delicious hibiscus-free fruit infusion. This one tastes more or less like DT’s Tropicalia, so pretty much like a pina colada, but better, and free of silly little candies. The flavour also seems to have a bit more depth to it. Again, I hot-brewed 3 generous tsp of this for a few minutes, and then diluted with cold water and stuck the cup in the fridge. I’m pretty pleased with the results, although it’s a bit chilly to be drinking iced tea right now! Hopefully I’ll try the rest of the tea as a hot brew in the near future (which I may stick in the fridge to chill once tasting).

Sipdown! 827.

Another hot/cold-brew, and it was delicious. I drank this one quite quickly though, so I can’t recall if I caught the orange/clove notes that I did last time, but it was definitely fruity vanilla marzipan. Even if you’re not a fan of marzipan, I’d recommend giving this tea a shot! It’s quite tasty… and hibiscus-free!

What’s this – a fruit infusion that doesn’t contain hibiscus!?

I hot-brewed a generous 3 tsp of this tea for a few minutes before sticking it in the fridge to brew a bit longer, and I am definitely pretty impressed with the results. It tastes a bit like marzipan, but I can taste some of the individual elements as well, like a hint of cloves and orange. Also – the fruit chunks in this are HUGE! Making it less-than-optimal for making single cups, as it’s difficult to get all the ingredients in there, but great for a sweet, refreshing jug of iced tea.

I’m sure this is an expensive tea, just due to being composed of heavy fruit chunks, but I’d certainly pick some up again for summer, as this is quite a unique, delicious, hibiscus-free blend!

drank Passionfruit and Orange by PureAromaTea

SIPDOWN! (268) I made a cold brew of this and it’s perfect today which is humid and hot and gross. This is a pretty good cold brew as well. Not as tasty as i thought it would be so this one is likely better off as a hot brewed, cooled tea. :) still decent though and not hibiscusy sour

mmmmmm i am enjoying this one tonight. I like that this has both passionfruit and orange in it, and both tastes carry over to the brew itself. It’s a little tart but not overly so, and i suspect adding a bit of sugar would turn this fruity concoction even tastier! I think this would be a nice addition to the cupboard for summer time cold brews, though i haven’t yet tried it cold :)

drank Apple & Mango by PureAromaTea

Another decent afternoon type tea from purearoma. I find this much more mango than i do apple but again, this is a smooth tea with a pleasant taste that doesn’t overwhelm anything. I don’t love the taste of this one, but i think that’s personal preference more than it’s that the taste is wrong. There is a floral note in here that detracts from the taste. I think i likely need to order some straight teas from purearoma since i’m finding that the base to their flavoured teas sits well with me. I’d be interested in finding out how they stand on their own.

drank Peach Black Tea by PureAromaTea

This might be one of my favourite peach teas yet. Mostly because its paired with a black base, and much like purearomas description says, it blends with the base rather than becoming one of those overpowering “peach” teas that tastes a lot like peach juice. Not that I personally mind peach juice but sometimes I want tea….not juice. :) this is almost too sweet for me without any additives so I imagine this would make a really nice cold brew. It’s something ill have to try one of these days. Overall I really like how subtle this is, without losing itself. It’s also nice to have a peach black instead of a peach green. Purearoma, you do great things with tea!

TeaLady441

I’ll definitely check them out. In a few months.

sooner than that :) I’ll add some to your package!

Hot this tea emits a fruity smell with an orangey peachy top note. It is slightly candy like, and has a hint of malt. The tea brews to a maple wood colour.

At first sip the tea has a green faintly floral note that quickly dissipates into a sweet orange taste, closer to a mandarin orange. This is followed by a rich deep note from the base tea that hints of malt or chocolate and a sweet note from the base tea that is seperate from the flavouring. The peach notes in this tea may be the result of the almonds. There is a slight sharp tang from the orange flavouring and the orange peel and hibiscus. There is also a faint hint of spice. The cloves are not in your face but instead leaves a faint tingle on the tongue and bring a certain warmth and brightness to the tea. This is not a spicy tea it is not like the fruity chais you get in fall, and while it tastes warming it is something that I could happily drink all year round.

drank Rose Congou by PureAromaTea

Oh, this is a classy classy rose congou. I was comparing it with my random generic rose tea from this old tea (coffee actually) shop and this is so different.

Not that the generic tea is bad, it´s actually pretty good (and the 100 grams I bought before this one was good, though this latest batch is not the same. They deny being a different tea, maybe it was due to freshness or being crushed or just differences with the blender. The problem with “generic” teas), and large enough leaf. But this is quite different – less roses, and a different rose smell. The generic tea is more full of rose petals (pretty filler but adding very little to flavour) and is richer in aromatic oils (oil can became bitter and just cloying). The generic tea is more one-note rosy. This tea has a different, more complex, more realistic but just as intense rose smell. Its leaves are also a smidgeon bigger and plumper. It brews much more subtle and much smoother. A very classy tea, if that description makes sense to anybody but me.

Notes – it is of course a rose tea. I usually find rose teas sort of fruity , in this case it reminds me a tiny bit of grapes.

yes I can see perfectly what a classy tea is

Hallieod

I’m so glad you liked it! I was feeling a bit unsure, given the number of amazing French floral blends you have, but figured it would be interesting to try anyway. Made me think of tea roses, rather than other varieties of rose. Ysaurella, I’ll send you some too.

cteresa

Awww, not all french floral blends are amazing (though I admit I am a bit of a francophile when it cames to flavoured or blended tea). This is just lovely by any standards, and the seller site seemed very respectable indeed.

I have been drinking this one at work and wanted to do a quick note to report I accidentally steeped this one for 25 minutes instead of 2 (darn work got in the way). It actually is still drinkable. There is less earl grey taste and the black tea is stronger but it is not bitter or astringent.

Ok so I had this one hot a few days ago and commented on how the black base tasted strange. Then I made it as a cold brew yesterday and I did not get that strange black base taste. So I thought my cup or infuser may have been contaminated, therefore changing the taste of the tea. But I made it again today and got the same strange black tea base taste. Not strange in a bad way. Just strange as in something I have never tasted before. It kind of reminds me of a darjeeling but not quite. The Pure Aroma website says the base is China black tea. I have emailed them to see if they can be more specific on exactly what kind of Chinese tea/blend it is. I will update with results as soon as they reply.

UPDATE: here is the reply from pure aroma. I guess I was half right on the Darjeeling – happy to know that my tastes buds do work.

“Our Earl Grey blue flowers tea is blended with black Keemun from China’s Anhui province and Darjeeling from India.”

Dinosara

I really wish places would be more specific… they clearly have the information! Listing it as China black tea without adding that it also has darjeeling is a little misleading. I personally don’t like darjeelings for the most part so I would avoid it if I knew! (at least now I do, thanks for emailing)

Lala

I agree. I also do not like Darjeeling, but I can tolerate it in a blend. I think that is why this tea tasted so strange to me at first.

PureAromaTea

Sorry for misleading description, more details has been added. Thank you for review!

Lala

PureAromaTea- thank your for making that change. It is very much appreciated!

Made this one as a cold brew, brewed for about 26 hours. This is super strong bergamotty Earl Grey, so obviously, I like it. Black tea base is smooth. I am not getting the strange black tea flavour I got when I had this hot yesterday. I am wondering if maybe my infuser or cup was contaminated yesterday when I made it hot. Happy I tried this one cold. Much stronger bergamot flavour cold than when hot.

Thanks KittyLovesTea for this in a swap!

This tea smells of beautiful bergamot. The bergamot is super strong, and I love it. The tea is also very pretty with whole black leaves, mixed with bright blue flower petals.

The brewed tea smells very strong of bergamot as well, but there is another smell I cannot place. It is the black tea but I can’t tell what kind of black tea it is.

The taste is good. Not as strong bergamot as it smells. The black tea base is throwing me off a bit, I wish I knew what kind of black tea it was. It is still good though, just not a familiar taste. Cornflowers always adds a flavour of pastry/crust/bread to me. So there is a faint taste of sweet bread underneath the earl grey taste.

Delicious Earl Grey, definitely something different to mix it up a bit!

The website just says this Earl Grey is made from the highest-quality black China teas. Most EG I have tried use a Ceylon base.

Lala

My first thought was that it tasted kind of like a Darjeeling, but then I saw it said China black tea. To me it is not quite like a Ceylon tea, but it could be. It might just be the bergamot flavouring and cornflowers that is throwing the taste off for me.

I must admit that i really like this tea, it capture the high notes champagne mixed with the fruity notes of slightly sugared crushed srawberries . It smells a little of strawberry cordial. The base is a fairly light slightly grassy sencha, whose grassiness is tempered by the chamomile that acts to also increase the fruitiness of the tea. I steeped the tea for about the two minutes suggested and the tea did not become bitter, there is a little astringency but all it does is act to mimic the dryness champagne can leave in the mouth.

The tea re-steeps well with the champagne weakening and the chamomile strengthening.

drank Apple & Mango by PureAromaTea
437 tasting notes

I needed a bit of a pick me up and I was craving something fruity but not overly desert like so I decided to try this tea. It delivers well on the first part after a cup I am pleasantly buzzing.

The dry tea consists of a nice dark congou blended with calendula petals and dried fruit. It brews to a nice maple colour. The scent of the tea very much reminds me of this peach apricot tea that I have:
http://steepster.com/teas/big-active/35473-essence-tea-yunnan-with-peach-and-apricot. However while the Posti tea is kind of rugged this one has a much smoother and subtle base and a lighter flavouring.

The tea smells more of mango than apple. It smells faintly peppery with a hint of that slightly starchy fruity scent that mangoes can have. The Mango becomes even more distinct as it cools with some bright accents peaking through from the apple

The tea base is very smooth with a slight hint of dark chocolate malt underneath a dominant top note that is very bright and light which melds with a mango note and something that is almost floral. The apple is not distinct but it might be contributing to the floral hint and helps to prevent the mango from becoming heavy and overly sweet. This tea is easily drinkable, but not heavily flavoured. The peppery notes become more distinct as you drink the cup. It has an interesting slightly raisiny aftertaste. A pleasant afternoon tea.

This is a very nice rose scented black that has a similar flavour profile to my favourite rose white:
http://steepster.com/teas/big-active/35474-white-tea-with-rose-petal
hence I’m already disposed to look on it favourably.

It brews to a bright copper colour, and has a scent of tea rose mixed with a deeper , slightly bready tea scent.

The first taste is of rose water with a slight metaliic ting. While it captures a similar flavour profile to my favourite rose white tea it lacks a bit of the sweetness and most of the citrus notes the white possesses. The tea underneath is quite smooth with very little astringency, just enough to leave a freshness in the mouth. The base tea has green vegetal that blends well with the rose flavour as top
notes that dissipate into a sweet fruity, raisiny base with biscuit notes. The tea is not powdery or overtly perfumy. It resteeps quite decently with the rose becoming a little more peppery and the base developing a faint hint of liquorice. I would enjoy keeping this tea in my cupboard.
