Recent Tasting Notes

Stuck a homebrew jar of this out on the stoop to make sun tea. Took one taste while it’s still hot and was pleased that the hibiscus-osity is low with a slow steep. Plenty of unsweet fruit punch “punch” that I’m looking forward to when it chills.

My little packet is from The Tea Table, but I’m pretty sure it’s just a private label of the same stuff.

Heard on Dr. Oz the other day that hibiscus (my tea nemesis most days) is actually good for high blood pressure. So, based on what I expect to hear at my checkup next week, I think Hi and I need to make our peace.

So, rummaging around my bits and bites basket, I found this, and was pleasantly surprised. The hibiscus stays politely in the background and lets the other fruit bits take the credit. It’s very much like an unsugared (as opposed to painfully tart) berry cobbler.

I have decided to pass this one along to a friend. Something about the black tea base in Metro Tea varieties are coming across a little bitter for me. I am sure I could figure it all out if I wanted to invest the time in finding the perfect brewing parameters for this tea, but I have only about an ounce left and it is not on my repurchase list. Maybe milk would have helped, but I seem to be getting away from teas that require milk these days.

It leaves a dry cracking feeling at the back of my throat. I have to drink water and still I can’t get rid of it. It has a weird smell and doesn’t taste like maple.

I’m an EG newbie, so I don’t feel right rating these just yet. This one from Metro Tea smelled delicious – citrusy and bright – but the taste! Lots of fruit loopy and manly. This next sentence will make me sound like a weirdo, I know, but the EG Cream smelled like a man – like cologne. And very much not in a good way. I don’t like heavy cologne on men; I call it “Pimp Diesel.” So while this one is tasty and hearty, it has a certain Pimp Diesel quality to it.

Maybe I oversteeped. Maybe I’m completely ignorant about EG. OK, actually I am. But I need to conquer this taste. Help me out, teasters!

ColumbiaKate 14 years ago Maybe you are right about the cologne quality. The aroma of this tea makes so many sales. People love it and come back for more. Most women, on smelling it practically melt. I call it “catnip for women” at the shop. I never thought of it as a Men’s cologne, but I can imagine that if men would carry a sachet of this tea with them they could probably create a following.

You may not be ale to find an EG that you like. Did you try this one with milk?

I had this one for the first time yesterday afternoon. It will definitely require further tastings to get a good read on it…I think I was pretty tired and unfocused, hence the need for a cup. I do remember it not being quite as smooth as the English Breakfast from Adagio that is a keemun. The smokey note was a little more intense than I expected.

From the tea journal:
I am just going to the source on this one. It is readily available at many vendors. I tried mine from Culinary Teas, and then purchased a larger amount from The English Tea Store. I do like the maple and blackberry flavors in this one. I don’t think I would rate it as among my favorites, but it is a pleasant cuppa. I probably won’t get more for some time once I am out. Too many more teas to try to keep purchasing one that is just pretty good.

How did it handle the oversteep!? :P

Bitter! Added some water and it was better. I could taste the EG + Jasmine. Strange tea from Jason.

I remember this one now! LOL – Yeah…I didn’t think it was very bold…but I don’t remember oversteeping it either…

Pulled this out of the cabinet today to try, and quickly remembered why it had been pushed to the back and forgotten about. The little wooden box that the tea is packaged in has really affected the scent and flavour of the tea and there is no cherry anything to speak of. I don’t know what kind of wood this box is made of, but it tastes like it smells. In the trash with the rest of this!

iced & unsweetened. I never would’ve thought to have it this way, but it was great! (at Lexington Tea House)

Fell asleep late, overslept, and am still having trouble feeling alert late this rainy morning. It is time for caffeine. (Actually I should have had some hours ago!)

Since I just tried Paris with sugar and no milk last week, and found it surprisingly pleasant, I decided to do the same with Monk’s Blend.

I chilled the second half of the mug – I liked it even better iced! The flavor was much more pronounced.

I have been absent from Steepsterton for way too long simple because I HAD NO TEA. Living at the tip of James Bay (northern Ontario) for two months with a 25lb weight limit for baggage to get up here has put a major cramp in my tea drinking style. The only thing available to me has been bagged Tetely Orange Pekoe (drinkable but not really postworthy). But (drum roll please!), courtesy of my amazing friends down south, and my birthday, I received no fewer then three packages of delicious looking loose leaf – one of which is this blend that I’ve been wanting to try forever (being a huge fan of grenadine-filled Shirley Temple’s as a child).

YAAAAAAAYYYYY! happy tea dance

So expect postings fellow Steepsterites, I’m through with lurking!!

Oh, and to make this slightly about the tea, while I haven’t gotten to brew it up yet the dry tea smell is just lovely – sweet-sweet melded with a nice black tea nippiness and warm vanilla notes – YUM!!

Grenadine is in Shirley Temples? O= I thought it was cherry. Wow, now I know what to look for for a “shirley temple tea.” It’s something I’ve been wondering about for months!

And your friends are awesome. I understand the literally no tea dilema.

Fairly smooth and buttery. A little dry on the back of the throat, but not a bad bagged tea.

Baklogging from yesterday. This is the last teabag I gotten from Teaequalsbliss awhile back. Thanks. This is a good tea with some blackberry that is tart yet not over the top abit of maple and the green tea.

I just got this tea from a swap with many other teas from Teaequalsbliss, thanks so very much! by the way. This I’s a teabag dry this smells abit like berry. I steeped it up and now can smell the berry more with a hint of sweetness. Taste wise this tastes like black tea with a blackberry thats natural but not over tart with abit of sweetness of the maple. Now blackberry is not one of my favorite berries but with the maple it tones that tartness down. So this is pretty good.

Maple and blackberry sounds like a weird combo…

Sounds like a great pairing with pancakes or waffles. I love blackberry syrup so I bet this is delicious!

I’m pretty sure this is the sweet iced tea I had with dinner at the teahouse. A squeeze of lemon gave it a summery feel. Strawberry flavor is strong but natural tasting and not overpowering.
