Not feeling well emotionally or physically today so I decided to pack my OJ w/ extra matcha. 1TB/8oz OJ. Not sure what brand mom bought this time, but it looks different… thicker… more opaque. It tastes different too. I don’t think it’s just cuz of the matcha. It tastes… creamier? Yes… more like a matcha dreamsicle… strange…

I hope you’re feeling better today!

Cofftea

I had a REALLY rough night (bad side effect to the melatonin I took), but I’m better today- thanks for asking:)

sophistre

That stuff makes me feel awful too. I’ve got some pretty tricky sleeping issues (no apnea or anything, but trouble getting into/staying in REM sleep) and tried using that stuff instead of medicating with Rx drugs…my body hates it. I get super cranky and restless. It worked for my dad, though. Go fig.

Cofftea

Really sophistre? I’ve been taking it occasionally for ~8 years and Mon nite was the 1st time I’ve had an adverse reaction. And last nite I took it w/ no problem. I’m gonna switch to Alteril- it has L-Theanine! :)

sophistre

Yeah, it gives me that restless-leg anxious grumpy feeling, it’s not fun. My dad swore by it (he had similar sleeping issues to mine). I haven’t heard of Alteril, but it sounds promising. Some discussion with one of my scarily smart friends led me to consider GABA, but I haven’t started with it yet…I’m just trying to stay away from the Trazodone unless I absolutely need it. Good luck with that stuff!

I had an egg roll and rice Lean Cuisine so I went for the most obvious beverage- Koicha! 1tsp sifted and 40ml hot water added and then whisked. I need to have this at a Chado Ceremony though, it’s always just a bit chalky when I make it.

2.5tsp matcha/20oz bottle Yumberry Pomegranate SoBe Life Water. James Bond style. Wow! This is pretty good. I’m glad I’m finding more and more ways to flavor matcha so I like it cold. Although… the reason I’m drinking this is to attempt to salvage this water. Why the heck is this so sweet when there are no sweeteners listed in the ingredients? It’s still sweet even this way.

BUT BE WARNED! The combo of the water & matcha look NASTY! lol

Try the yuzu currant life water! I’ve found it to be much less sweet than the other flavors – which is probably why it doesn’t sell, although the fact that it is a combination of two fruits that most people don’t know exist probably doesn’t help.

Mocha Matcha Latte!

1TB matcha
1TB drinking chocolate mix
8oz Fat Free Smart Balance Milk
4oz water

Needed something sweet, yet detoxifying after my AMAZING Russian meal I stumbled upon. Originally went out for a perch fry, but found that the cafe was featuring Russian items! pork and sourkraut soup, (basically a chicken dumpling soup w/ carrots and potatoes w/ sourkraut and pork in place of the chicken), Cabbage rolls (but not as good as my best friend’s mom’s), cole slaw, and a potatoe roll. It warmed my heart to have a Russian meal and think of my Russian best friend, especially since I didn’t think there was any Russian food to be had in our area.

Decided to make my detoxifying matcha (1TB/12oz water) in my Seattle mug w/ this today. Didn’t sift it because the bottom of my sifter was below the water line… I suppose I should have sifted it 1st then added water, but I used my mug to heat the water. Oh well. Surprisingly it’s not at all bitter this time! I guess 1tsp/4oz water is the perfect ratio, even if you don’t sift it… which is kinda sad though since that isn’t the ratio for Koicha.

Another Koicha attempt. I actually remembered to weigh the 1tsp of matcha I used and it weighs 1.89g… so WHY does wikipedia say 1tsp should weigh ~3.75g?! Anyway… It’s less bitter this time but that’s to be expected since it is, after all, Koicha. Kinda like the difference between dark and milk chocolate. Unfortunately it didn’t whisk very well inspite of not taking very long to be sifted.

sophistre

A teaspoon is a measurement of volume, whereas grams are a measurement of weight, so they aren’t able to be converted precisely. What a teaspoon will weigh in grams depends upon the density of the teaspoon’s contents, so a teaspoon of lead is obviously not going to weigh the same as a teaspoon of…I don’t know, sugar. ;)

The difference between matchas is not so wildly stark, obviously, but it’s not surprising — the moisture content and fine-ness of the powder would certainly make every batch weigh in differently, on a sensitive scale.

Cofftea

sophistre, I absolutely realize this. That’s why I measure my favorite chai and a few other teas by the heaping teaspoon- it’s ~4g:) The reason I meantioned it was just because the difference was HUGE. I would have never mentioned it if wiki’s estimated weight was say ~2g lol:) I measured it by the scoop once and they said it should be ~3 scoops, but for that particular matcha the weight was about ~7 scoops!

sophistre

Ah! Sorry. You wouldn’t believe how often I’ve been asked how to convert between systems from a unit of measurement of one type to a unit of completely a different type. Silly Imperial system of measurement!

Koicha is going so well now that I’m sifting, I had to make it w/ this. To my surprise it sifts faster than my other matchas (1 min instead of 2)… but it is quite bitter… :( That makes me sad.

LeafSpa Organic Tea

Cofftea - I'm so disappointed that you found our matcha to be "quite bitter". That is very strange as I've typically heard the opposite especially when compared with DoMatcha's organic variety and our other competitors. Of course, I'd be happy to have your purchase refunded for you or we could send you a different tin and see if there might have been something wrong with the one you purchased (very rare ....but possible). Send me an email at infoleafspa.com to discuss. At LeafSpa Organic Tea, our customer relationships are the most important thing for our business obviously, so, I want to make sure that we do whatever we can to address this issue to your satisfaction.

Cofftea

Let me give it another try or 2- I LOVE that it sifts quickly so I’m not gonna give up yet. Thank you for taking the time to pay attention to the steepster tasting notes, I know running a business is quite time consuming. I love interacting w/ companies here:)

LeafSpa Organic Tea

Sounds good. I hope your second try is much more enjoyable! Obviously, you’re a true Matcha lover so I wait with baited breath to hear your next thoughts…. Have a good night.

Gets better every time I have some :)

Lori

This one is nice and not as orang-y as I expected (which is good)…

Jamie

Yeah it is really good – pushed my favorite Samovar night time treat right off the shelf.

Just got this tea today and I was worried that I might be disappointed by it. The description just sounded too delicious to be true.

I’m so far removed from being disappointed that I’m almost at a loss for words. It smells like a Creamsicle, minus the sticky sweet part. This blend is a thing of beauty. The flavors are so well balanced that it’s hard to separate any one of them. I tried to analyze it (because that’s what I do) but it had me so relaxed, so quickly, that I lost the urge.

Sitting here now, all mellowed out, thinking of all the people I’d love to share this one with. Everyone needs to try this one.

This is such a wonderful tea cold-brewed in my Bodum pitcher from Golden Moon. The honey taste is strong. It is becoming one of my favorites…

This is a refreshing for the summer. I brewed it over nite in the fridge using the cold brewing method and my Bodum iced tea pitcher (which is a great size- not too big and not too small). This tasted flowery , sweet like honey, and a perfect subtle mint flavor…highly recommended…..

Yummy, the mint is more pronounced today which is great since that is what I wanted. The chocolate and delicious as well. I feel this one keeps getting better each time I make it and some how LeafSpa makes it to my cup at least once a day be it this one or another. Great stuff.

Bumping this up a couple of points because upon making this a second time I tasted the mint more so perhaps my first attempt wasn’t mixed up enough. So it is still yummy but just a little more this time.

WOW talk about chocolate! The aroma as soon as you open the tin is intense and amazingly it is not at all lost in translation after it has been steeped. Visually the dry tea is gorgeous to look at. The chocolate nibs are huge and the pieces of apples are so cute. Everytime the wind blows it carries the chocolate smell all over. With the said the taste is wonderful. I don’t really taste the fruit and I am sure that is supposed to be that way. Although, the chocolate is intense the mint is barely noticeable. There needs to be a little more balance there since it is supposed to be “Mint Chocolate” otherwise great, especially since I am not a huge chocolate in my tea fan. Just did a last minute addition of sugar and now it tastes more like ice cream. Yum!

First the leaves are very nice to look at. Now, the tea is very good as well. I found it bright and lively. Probably wonderful with a pastry. It is a touch smokey but not a lot I may try this with some milk and sugar and get back to you all.

Still loving this little gem. I needed a strong bold black tea this morning and this certainly did the trick. It is bold, rich, and just plain lovely. LeafSpa is very much missed by me.

Yummy! If you like bold then you have come to the right place. This tea is very robust and as a past post said it has a malty flavor and a sweetness. I found this to be coffee-like. Meaning you take this tea down in large gulps without even realizing it and it is bold a wake up if you will. Then once you swallow and savor that sip a wonderful sweetness comes out and gives you that “ahhhh” feeling as you slink into your chair a little further and relax your shoulders and think for a minute “this is good” and then before you know it times speeds up again you gotta get back to reality. I know it is strange but that is what I got and I hope I made sense. Basically: Good!

This tea has a very earthy flavor. Definitely makes me feel like I ate some hay with the horses. I think it would be a lot better with a bit of honey or agave as a sweetener. The bold back end is a bit too much for me but can’t say I hate it.

I am a bit surprised with this tea. I am very happy that the lemon does not taste artificial or overwhelming. That is where the surprise is. The actual tea is nothing spectacular but nevertheless this is a nice tea and will do in a pinch. I will continue to drink and perhaps try it iced as well.
