It is pretty much what others said. Pretty much generic, boring blaack tea. I add metallic. Yep, it was quite metallic to me, slightly malty.
I did not had big expectations and this is tea which exactly is like.
Basic black tea, without any super or nice moments, just generic. I would not be surprised if there is no darjeeling at all.
On the other hand; today we celebrated mine and two (of four) brothers birthdays. It was pretty much nice, parents baked a cake to us, we had nice BBQ, but now it is 8 pm and I feel completely tired. I received few gifts (but not so great as Nattie’s and it was less phenomenal too). I got some money vouchers for local sports shop (pretty nice, I need hiking trousers), Jack Daniels (well, it is always nice to have good liquor around, even it’s pretty much basic), Lindt Coconut dark chocolate (you can’t go wrong with chocolate) and biggest and heaviest gift: Bradshaw’s Continental Railway Guide and General Handbook, Illustrated with Local And Other Maps, Special Edition (it’s reprint, but whatever, it is super cool!). As I am railway buff, I prefer going everywhere by train, this book is like a railway Bible for us. It is not that actual (it is from 1913), but it is still very cool and it gives lots of ideas. And last one, and first one I actually received, was a digital copy of Mashinky PC game. If you know (heard about Transport Tycoon, it is very, very similar :) )
So, pretty nice gifts too :) I have hoped for some tea, but yeah, it is better that I don’t get any. They don’t know if it suits well my tastes…

Unfamiliar darjeeling
The tea or tea bag?
So, I didn’t like the last darjeeling I had either. I’m starting to wonder if I just don’t like darjeelings, or if it’s a quality issue since I’m back to swapped bag teas after a binge of loose leaf. I’m still not sure what flavor to specifically associate with a darjeeling, so who knows. The only way I finished this cup was with a lot of brown sugar dumped in.
What temperature did you brew it at? Darjeelings can taste just awful when brewed in boiling or really hot water like other black teas…I thought I hated them for years because of it!
also, different darjeelings taste really different, and most teas just labeled “darjeeling” are of low quality. I could send you some of a variety of flushes and qualities if you would like.
Amanda, maybe that’s the problem! I have one bag left; I’ll try it today with cooler water.
Cheri, would you? That would be so sweet! At this point, I wouldn’t try money on looseleaf darjeelings. But maybe if I had something of quality, it would change my mind…
Bought this today from local Lidl. Don’t have high expectations, but…
Yes, this smells like good Darjeeling should. But wow, this is very plain tasting. Doesn’t taste anything. This needs either sugar or milk.
After adding sugar, this is much better. This tea doesn’t go high in my ranks, but its cheap, Fair Trade and Organic. Maybe honey would also add some taste to this.
Wow! You had a full day! I didn’t realize realize you are railroad buff! I know it isn’t really just for railroad lovers, but do you have the game Ticket to Ride? Youngest bought the Poland add-on while she was in Poland.
I loved the train ride from Derry to Belfast. The train was comfortable and the scenery was stunning. I have never ridden a train in America. I don’t know if our trains are very nice.
Happy birthday, again! I hope your tea gets there soon and that you will find some things you love!
Ashmanra: I don’t have the game, as it is quite pricey here, but heard about it! Maybe once I will have it. As well many other railroadiana.
And thank you for another birthday wishes :)
