Drink The Leaf

Smooth. No astringency, which you all know is important for me. I added a wee splash of milk and stevia. Perfection in a cup. Now, I am ready to go back to school…new breakfast teas (notice the plural) in the cupboard.

Second time drinking this tea. I am more impressed this time. The leaves opened up more and thus the flavor is better. Added stevia and milk to round out this mornings breakfast tea. Smooth ceylon that reminds me of an english breakfast tea.

Just got this one in and I must say it is growing on me. I do believe that this is a tea that benefits from adding stevia and milk. I purchased this with the hope that it would make a good breakfast tea and it does! Bold and brisk, this is a “wake up” tea.
So hoorah for me and kudos to Dan~tea drinker from Drink The Leaf for a Ceylon well done! Oh, and let me mention this, I ordered these teas on Monday and got them on Wednesday! I got 6 ounces of tea(3 different kinds) for $17 plus shipping $22 total!

Noticing that the last tea I drank that had “Mao Feng” in the title was a green tea, this made me curious, so I first went and looked up what “Mao Feng” meant. According to the “wonderful source of all knowledge,” Wikipedia, Mao Feng “is a term in tea manufacture denoting the picking of a bud and two leaves of equal length.” It goes on to tell about their broad, curved shape and the desirability of this design.

Dry, these leaves are long, thin, and wiry. The aroma is mild and a bit malty. After steeping for the recommended time, the aroma really opens up, revealing delicious smelling honey tones. Hmmm, but the leaves haven’t expanded very broad…though they are curved and flat.

Taking my first sip, the flavour explodes across my tongue, drenching it in much the same flavours as were smelled in the completed liquor: a bit of a malt, with sweet, dark honey tastes.

What seems to be a simple tea actually contains a myriad of experiences for the senses, all coming together to make this a nice tea experience and a delight to drink. I rate it a 75 out of 100 on my personal enjoyment scale.

Blood oranges fascinate me. I know they are becoming more popular (like the surge of pomegranate flavors over the last 3 years), but they still seems exotic, unusual and downright fascinating. It’s the dark red color of the fruit’s flesh combined with the bright citrus flavor that just get my mouth watering!

My first impression is that this tea smells awesome; dark and sweet and tangy. And upon the first sip, the taste lives up to the smell. I brewed this up in my zarafina tea maker at work, and added half a packet of sweetener and the first cup disappeared within minutes. So did the second cup. And the third. Additionally, it withstood a second brewing quite well. Which is a little unusual for a highly flavored black tea. This helps in making this tea a good value for your money – always a bonus!

I’d recommend this tea to anyone who likes black teas and citrus flavors. It tastes great and is a good value.

Finished my sample of this today – tragedy. It’s so yummy and orangey and just overall good.

I’m breaking one of my own rules here. I got this tea to review for www.itsallabouttheleaf.com and I don’t like to put any info on Steepster until after the review posts – I think it’s just polite, since they sent me tea to review and all.

But I just have to say how much I’m enjoying this one. It’s yummy, it’s pretty, and it’s just darned good tea. I think I’ll be getting some of this for myself after my sample is gone.

I forgot how much I liked this one! YUM! Oh-so-slightly chewy/malty and a sweet aftertaste. A wonderful black tea!

I’m shocked I am the first to log this!

The color is GREAT as described in the product description. It smells yummy too! A bready-toasty type black tea scent.

The taste is great! I can relate to the caramel and honey notes DRINK THE LEAF spoke of in the Product Description too! I also appreciate the bready/cakey type chewiness too! It’s not sweet – you almost think it’s going to be (a good type) bitter but it’s not bitter either. It’s a lingering tea too! But it also makes you crave more!

This seems a little more complex that it gives itself credit for – and I like that!

I decided to cold-brew this one overnight, and I’m kicking myself for not doing this earlier. This makes really great iced tea. It is pretty standard but with a hidden kick of blood orange that hits towards the end of the sip. I may have to buy some more just to cold-brew because unfortunately, I’m now out of this delicious tea.

This is a pretty good flavored black that does not need any additions. There is no bitterness and it is very smooth. I think this might be good iced, perhaps that is how I will use the rest of my packet.

I don’t have time to deal with a fussy tea today. I’ve only been up 15-20 minutes and I’m already overwhelmed by my itinerary so I just needed something that I could brew, throw in a mug and go about my very busy, stressful morning. I’ll worry about my afternoon later.

This tea has super cute and colorful leaves. The picture on the product page does not do this tea justice at all. The orange is very prominent in the aroma of both the dry and brewed tea. It is not often that I come across a black tea that I really like plain. Usually I give all black teas at least a bit of milk and possibly sweetener, but this tea doesn’t need any of that. The taste is very juicy and smooth with no bitterness. The best part is that the flavoring does not have that artificial taste that can really ruin otherwise decent teas. This would probably also be good with a small amount of honey or iced.

A nice medium black tea that I doubt I will ever get sick of! Had two cups of this already today! YAY!!!

Cocoa!? REALLY!? Okay…I’ll bite!!!

YUP!!! I can smell the cocoa comparison! YAY!

Honestly…when I randomly choose this one from my “NEW” Pile I thought…“sigh…another ceylon…” BUT honestly…this is probably one of my favorite Ceylons to date! It’s pretty bold but smooth and slippery. It’s semi-malty but incredibly tasty…and I would agree it’s DIFFERENT than any other Ceylon I have tasted in the past.

I am so sad that Drink the Leaf is closing. This is my all time favorite tea. I am kicking myself for not ordering a few weeks back when I had the chance. I did grab a new teapot and a Timolino in ocean blue for 50% off!
I have not been drinking hot tea, it is hot enough here in Texas. Tonight I made a teapot and savored each sip. So light and sippable. No astringency. Orange tones hit as I swallow the best Ceylon base. I am sadly in tea bliss.
