I’m not sure what the Pledge talk is all about or the hate for this tea. I actually quite like it. I had it iced & it’s nice & light. It’s definetly reminiscent of something else but I can’t place it (& it sure isn’t pledge).
I had to add a little honey which I usually do with greens. It has a touch of green tea taste, but is many citrus.
I made this iced, to me an Orange Creamsicle can only be iced.
The dry notes smell just like an orange creamsicle, so potent & sweet. Once steeped it still smells like this, the rooibos starts to come out though. I think by now we know I don’t like rooibos teas, but I had to try this.
There is only the slightest hint of orange creamsicle in it, thankfully though the rooibos isn’t strong & I will be able to finish the pitcher of it.
Thanks to Alphakitty I was able to try this one! This just might be my fave from Caraway Tea Company thus far! This is a great fruity white tea. The currants are plumpy and true. It has a mysterious creamy-note in the middle of the sip that is surprising but delightful! There are subtle floral specs of flavor in this as well. White Base & White Currants make a winning combo in my book!
Love the smell of the dry notes. Perfectly spicey with a hint of citrus.
Once steeped it keeps the smell, however the scent doesn’t quite carry through to the taste. It’s not as spicy as I would like.
About half my cup cooled to slightly more than room temperature & there was my spice. WOW. So good. Perfect amount of spices with a black tea taste lingering & a hint of citrus. This may just be one of my new fav spiced teas!
Preparation
This sample was sent to me by Anny Oxidant and the Tea Bullie – thank you!
Hmm, the reviews here are not too favorable so far. :-P
I steeped mine at around 180F for 3 minutes. I am finding that the flavor is pretty high up on the tangerine. I’m not quite getting the “Pledge” flavor that others have described but maybe I’m used to lemon pledge? :)
I’m finding it a little bit bitter and a little bit reminiscent of Tang. I definitely don’t love it, but I don’t hate it as much as the other reviewers. Might even finish the cup!
Preparation
This sample tea comes from Anny Oxidant and the Tea Bullie. thank you!
I went to the gym today and got a good workout, now I’m just trying to stay awake through the evening’s activity which involves going to an art opening.
I steeped for 3 minutes at 180F; this yielded a very light tea liquor. I’m not sure I’ve ever had an acai berry before, but the flavor reminds me of a cross between a blueberry and a raspberry. I wasn’t sure I’d like this, but it’s very nice and refreshing… might also be good as a cold brew tea. It isn’t as sweet as some white teas I’ve tried, but that might also be due to the acai flavoring.
Thank you, Anny for letting me try it!
Preparation
Brewed this up alongside Cherry Sakura, and although the two teas do not taste the same, I’m not sure which is which. Either way, both of them are not too bad – just different versions of red fruit greens, with bases that are mediocre but surprisingly okay considering how old they are.
Planning to use up the last of this as iced tea, as I don’t envision myself wanting a cup of it in the future.
The smell of this one initially reminded me of 52teas’ Strawberry Pancake; mostly sweet strawberry flavouring coming out, with perhaps a green tea undertone.
The flavour is initially a bit tart-sweet, and the aftertaste is definitely of strawberries. Fake ones, perhaps, but I’m ok with that. The aftertaste is actually also reminiscent of the strawberry flavour from Butiki’s Strawberry Oolong, which is quite distinct from the 52teas flavour. Interesting. There’s also a light berryish flavour that I’m picking up, which fits in nicely. I’m actually rather enjoying this tea, honestly. It’s a touch too light for me, but I followed the instructions and used 1 tsp instead of the usual 1.5 that I would use, so I’ll change that next time. I am also getting some green tea flavour, both during the sip and as an aftertaste. Yum :) I don’t think I’d buy some for myself, but it was worth the taste!
Just noticed that I’m getting a bit of throat scratchiness here, not sure if it’s random and unrelated, or a flavouring thing. Not worrisome enough to make a fuss about though.
Preparation
Brewed a bit of this up to try, and although there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just a pretty bland green tea. A bit nutty-ish, which is nice, but it mostly screams generic green tea to me, so not something I’d pick out for myself. It’s not particularly vegetal, nor seaweedy, and there’s almost a hint of astringency in the aftertaste, which is actually more pleasant than a problem. It actually reminds me a touch of a genmaicha.
I won’t be re-steeping this one; I’m drowning in tea as is, so I really don’t need to drag this one out.
Preparation
Finally hit a tea I don’t feel like I’ve tasted before. The aroma is kind of peachy, and it carries into the flavour, which unfortunately is then marred by hibiscus. That said, the hibiscus isn’t overwhelming, so it’s ok, but peach and that sort of tartness don’t really go together in my mind. This tastes more or less like ‘Thank You Berry Much’ plus some peach flavour thrown in.
Preparation
This tastes disturbingly like DavidsTea’s Bear Trap. Very similar. Tart from the hibiscus (but bearable in spite of a long infusion), and kind of like tart berries.
In other news, I’m feeling really down right now because I feel like I’ve made a bunch of social/relationship mis-steps lately, and am really worried that I’ve ruined things. :( Blah.
Preparation
Delicious cold-brewed. And very similar/the same as Mahamosa’s Cherry Kiwi Coconut Fruit.
Also, it’s funny how the ingredients listed don’t match up to what’s in the tea, because there are definitely cranberry pieces and apple in here… in fact, they’re obvious in the tea that’s pictured here! So why only cherries, kiwi, and coconut are listed, I have no idea.
Anyways, it’s good :D
One thing I’ve been noticing about Caraway’s teas though, is that I swear there’s extra sediment at the bottom of my cup when I’m drinking them. It could be fruit pieces or something, but it looks like sand, and I’m really worried that that’s what it is. I don’t remember seeing it in teas prior, but have experienced in more than once in the teas from Caraway (particularly the fruity ones). Anyone else?
Preparation
Huh. I thought I was maybe dreaming that (and had totally forgotten to be honest, my apologies) – perhaps I should chuck the rest of the bag…
No worries! I’m really glad that I got to try this! It’s interesting that you found this in other fruits blends of theirs as well. I wouldn’t even have noticed there was anything unless I had read your tasting note.
So, Amanda, if you happen to be reading this… I almost have a suspicion that this tea and Mahamosa’s Cherry Kiwi Coconut Fruit are the same tea. I guess I’ll be able to find out shortly. I’m definitely getting similar flavours here, and there are huge pieces of tasty cherry, and the ingredients seem to be the same… Again though, like with Roasted Almond, this wouldn’t be a bad thing, since I’m such a fan! And it’s nice to find alternate suppliers. I just would almost prefer to be trying something new and different instead of something I’ve had before.
The aroma is fruity and cherry-like, although definitely not cough syrup; it’s a real cherry sort of aroma (and flavour) here. Same with the flavour. Light cherry, general fruitiness, a bit of creaminess perhaps from the coconut. Can’t really taste the kiwi, but it could be doing something in there. I’d like this to be stronger though; already used 2 heaping tsp for a maybe 10 oz. mug, so will have to try more next time.
Preparation
Lol… anyone remember Caraway?
My lovely baby son got into my teas the other day, because we relocated his toybox to act as a barrier to another room (the toybox had been blocking tea cupboard access), and it turns out that he got into my teas from this company. Which I was never particularly fond of. However, I may take the opportunity to try/re-try a few of them, and then – ice them!
This tea is the essential dupe of Forever Nuts, and various other similar teas. One notable difference, I think, is that this doesn’t have gigantic cinnamon chunks, which is fine by me. I iced a big Takeya pitcher of it, and although it’s not my husband’s favourite tea, he says it’s fine enough to drink, so will get through it. It’s fairly sweet, appley, almondy, cinnamony. Not my favourite, as I don’t care for cinnamon in iced tea, apparently. There’s about one more pitcher’s worth in the bag.
Yep… like someone else (Azzrian?) said, this one is pretty much the same as DavidsTea’s Forever Nuts, and a few other offerings from other companies. Less sweet than DT’s version, but tastily cinnamony, nutty, and good. So, a bit sad that it’s nothing special, but I’m not upset that it’s at least something tasty!
Preparation
When I saw this in my huge pile of samples I bought when Caraway tea had their sale I thought “why on earth would you order something that had a flower name in the title and as the main ingredients? DUH!” I am not a fan of flower flavoured/scented anything.
The dry notes are very berry smelling so I figured I’d give it a go after putting it back 3 or 4 times. once steeped it lost some of the berry scent & had a little more of a floral scent. I cringed a lil bit.
Thankfull the floral flavour in the tea is very weak, I mainly taste berries & a nice light green tea taste.
Since our summer has been a hot one nearly every day 30+ celcius for weeks on end, I am drinking this iced (maybe tonight I can enjoy a hot spiced tea since it’s raining) and it is a yummy one iced.
So far I am really impressed with Caraway Tea!
I’m a bit behind on my tasting notes, this was from 2 days ago I think. Since the short cold brews have worked so well with other Caraway teas, so I decided to do it with this one as well. I think I left it in a little too long, since the flavors were pretty strong, but still not overwhelming or artificial.
I’ve become very fond of currant flavored teas recently, though I find it usually pairs best with a black base. I found the idea of a white currant blend very appealing (both with a white base & white currants!), so it was pretty impossible to resist at the sale price. There are whole currants in here, which is always a good sign! They look like baby cranberries, those white ones that sometimes get mixed into bags. There’s a bit of a pink tinge as well, so the resemblance is strong! This is a pretty fruity tea with heavy berry notes, but I don’t know if I would identify it right away with currant. Then again I’m not that familiar with the white variety—it seems to lack a jammy, sweet quality though and is less subtle. The white base works well here, adding supporting floral and fruity notes along with a bit of sweet grassiness. It’s a nice iced tea, though perhaps not exactly what I was expecting.
I tasted the Orange Vanilla Cream Black tea from Caraway and it was DELICIOUS, so I had high hopes for this tea. I was hoping for a light, creamy, vanilla-ish tea that would soothe me while simultaneously remind me of those orange creamsicle pops for which it was named…
Unfortunately, no such luck. While this tea wasn’t BAD, it definitely does not live up to its name. Even with some vanilla soymilk helping it along, it was flat and really had no depth of flavor. I will drink it, but I won’t crave it, that’s for sure!
Preparation
I didn’t taste much flavor, either. But I thought it smelled wonderful, at least!
I like how you didn’t like it, but still gave it an 83 ;)
Rachel, I know I need to go back and rerate everything. My problem is I Started rating high so now I keep rating everything high in comparison. :-x
I have only recently started enjoying green teas with fruit flavourings in them.
The dry notes were spectacularly fruity. I wasn’t quite getting the mango scent, perhaps more of the passionfruit (although I’ve never tried an actual passion fruit).
Once steeped I found it lost much of it’s fruity scent, so I added a touch of honey just in case. This tea was nice & light & refreshing. I found there was very little green tea taste (which is great for me, probably less so for someone who loves the taste of green tea).
It seems like most people are displeased with their Caraway, so I am pretty nervous about digging into mine. Especially this one, since it was over $20 before discounts. A tea that pricey should be delicious, right? In the bag this smells like Element’s Pink Sonoma, which I loved, so I was cautiously optimistic. I decided to cold brew it since that seems to lessen the artificial-ness of some teas, which seems to be the main complaint with Caraway’s product.
I’ll admit that I totally forgot this was in the fridge and steeped it for about 20 hours instead of 12. Oops! Fortunately it didn’t seem to do much damage, just a bit of bitterness because there was too much leaf. I’m gonna chalk that one up to my spazziness and not the tea. The raspberry here is very subtle, not as bright or fruity as I was expecting based on the smell. The champagne comes in at the end of the sip and tastes like, well, champagne! It’s sweet and almost sparkling, which I didn’t expect. The white base is bright and a bit fruity, with some soft floral notes. Overall this is a nice tea and much better than I was expecting based on some of their other teas. I do prefer Pink Sonoma, but that tea isn’t even available anymore so I suppose this is a fair substitute!
I am pretty sure I have bought this one before from a local shop that no longer is in business, it smelled the same and so there is definitely at least one decent one out there!
I think their white blends are much better, the white currant I got also smells amazing while the Sakura green is a little… suspect.
Yeah, I opened that one last night too and after the tangerine one there was no way I was taking a chance on that one. I’m very afraid of it.
Who else was unhappy with Caraway? I only tried a couple, but I do agree they were a little artificial.
