I am not rating this tea now. I had a cup with a friend last night and I did not like it. It was a bit bitter and astringent. However, I may have over leafed it and over-steeped it. So I will try it again another time and see if I like it better. It sure sounmds good.
This came as a sample in my order. It’s a nice enough black tea with a hint of sweetness, but I do not taste caramel, and honestly, I never do taste caramel in caramel teas. I don’t know what they’re going on about. The only tea I’ve ever had that tasted caramely was Je T’Aime from Nina’s Paris, but it wasn’t really billed as a caramel tea, per se. And then they went and messed up the recipe, so that one’s out too now.
Caramel: The Phantom Flavor
Preparation
You know, now that you mention it, I have almost the exact same problem. Its so rare to get any caramel flavor in things billed as caramel, that your description is apt.
The weird thing is, shouldn’t this be an easy flavor? If all else fails, put in some chopped-up candy bits.
Hmm. I will reflect on this.
Have you tried Salted Caramel Oolong, ie. Oolong Caramel au Beurre Sale by Damman Freres? To my mind, that one is caramel.
No, I haven’t tried that one, I tend to drink my oolongs plain. It sounds really intriguing, though, I’ll keep it in mind!
Caramel comes across as sour to me, in teas. and coffee. I always hope… though there was one from Citizen tea that was close (Teaopia)
I know the sourness you mean! It’s especially strong in the coffees. Such a bizarre interpretation of the flavor though, because who ever ate a piece of caramel and thought “this tastes sour”? It’s like whoever makes the caramel flavor for all the tea and coffee companies never tasted caramel at all.
Sipdown of this. It didn’t take me long to get through my ounce. I want to say something nice about it, because it was a pleasant tea with no bad aftertastes or bitterness — but really, the tea had no wow factor. It was fine. It tasted like lemon (but wasn’t nearly as lemony as I would have liked) and the base was decent as long as you didn’t oversteep.
Sipdown. I liked the light cream/vanilla flavoring of this tea when I could get it right, but overall this tea was too finicky for me. It had a strong tendency to go astringent. I tried to be careful with my steep times, but I think there’s like a 15 second window between ‘not enough flavor’ and ‘whoops, now you’ve done it’ with this tea. I got it right about two times, and then it was very nice, but the cream flavor is so easily overwhelmed by the base, and it’s a base that can taste very rough if it’s just the least bit oversteeped.
Just got my first order in from Amitea. I think I’m going to try this again with a shorter steep time, because right now the base is way overpowering the flavorings. I get just a little hint of vanilla and cream. It’s pleasant enough, but I’m getting astringency far more than I’m getting the richness and smoothness of Devonshire Cream.
Preparation
This was spectacular. It really hit me right. Caffeine free which I like because I can drink it any time without worrying about going to sleep. I had it hot, although I think it would make a great iced tea. Really reminds me of pina colada with the smell and taste. It’s a lighter taste. I prefer herbal and green teas so this is really nice. If you like a strong black tea this won’t be your taste. You can smell the coconut and taste it but the flavors come together well. This is a esty tea blender and is a wonderful source. Great customer service and great seller. I have had several of her teas and really enjoyed all of them.
Preparation
yum. I was looking for a yummy chamomile to replace my chanomile tea bags from celestial seasoning. this fit perfectly. great balance of flavor without the chamomile being too strong. slightly sweet i needed no sweetener. its organic and loose leaf. shipped fast and good seller.
Preparation
Being a huge fan of green tea, I was excited to dive into this one. I really liked it. Sweet green tea with hints of a more veggiel/earthy finish. And I got to break out my gaiwan. Too fun!

2nd sample I had from my order from Amitea Organics. This one is perfect for the spring weather. Lemon herbal goodness with a honey twist. Super happy with this.
Flavors: Honey, Lemon
I brewed this up while watching Scooby Doo with the kid last night. He loves Scooby Doo and so do I. I accidentally let this one oversteep a bit but you couldn’t tell. This is great. When brewed hot, such a delicate subtle lightly flavored pear green tea. When brewed cold, you have some fab pear iced tea. Very versatile tea. Super happy with this.
Flavors: Pear, Sweet
Maybe it’s me not getting the temp right, but after playing around with different temperatures, I doubt it.
This comes across flat at best, astringent at worst. I can clearly see blossoms in the blend, but cannot taste them at all. I’ll continue fiddling with this, but my hopes aren’t exactly high.
