I picked up this milk tea while I was in China Town and I’m sure glad I did. It is a good tasting milk tea but it is far from being “traditional”. This product contains ingredient such as instant coffee which although doesn’t make it a “traditional milk tea”, certainly gives me the extra caffeine boost I need in the late afternoon. Depending on how long you steep the tea, you can enjoy either a sweet creamy taste or a fuller Oolong & Black tea flavor.

Preparation
Thanks to BabyBlue for giving me one of these teabags! This has got to be one of the most unique teas I’ve tried. It already has powdered milk and sugar included in it. When I opened the foil pack, a puff of it rose up.
The tea itself is just a basic black tea, but the sweetness of the sugar and the rose balance it nicely, making it a very yummy sweet treat. The rose gets watered down by the powdered milk, which is wonderful because sometimes rose can be too much.

Sipdown (99)! Hooray, I got to my sipdown goal for the summer/end of August of under 100 teas. And it is also just in time for my move across the country. Because I’ll be back in California, I probably won’t repurchase this one. I used this tea as a surrogate for my boba addiction because there is a dearth of good milk tea in Boston/Cambridge. If I ever find myself in a boba desert again, I will definitely repurchase this. However, it is gone for now.
Oh man, I cannot control myself when it comes to milk teas. I had this one again today. This morning before I left the apartment, I steeped this hot in my travel mug, then stuck the whole thing (mug + tea bag) into the fridge to continue to sit and cool down. Fast forward about 10 hours later, and I’m drinking a nicely refreshing cold milk tea. I just wanted to add that letting it steep for so long actually brought out a teensy bit of smokiness in addition to the roastiness. I guess smoky and roasty can go hand in hand, but I tend to lean heavily toward roasty and away from smoky. The smoky flavor was definitely not strong enough to put me off the tea, but it was just an interesting find.
Edit: I just realized I started my other tasting note on this tea with “Oh man” as well. I didn’t know that I said that so much, haha.
Oh man, I really tried not to buy more tea, but my local Asian grocery doesn’t usually have the roasted flavor of this tea. Plus, I’ve been really wanting to try it since I had the regular milk tea version. Plus plus, I had run out of the regular milk tea version… Next thing I know, I’m at the cash register with this extra box in my cart. Anyway, there’s not much different about it compared to the regular milk tea version. I mean, it is slightly roastier, but mostly the same old same old. I guess I would prefer it over the regular one because I just like roasty teas, but honestly, there is not much difference to have them both at the same time. I think I wasn’t really in the mood for something this sweet right now because of the sweetener included, but I’ll definitely be reaching for it when my sweet tooth is acting up a bit more in the future.
I was so proud the other day to get down to 103 teas, but now I’m back up one tea, sigh. I think my modest sipdown goal for the end of the month is to be under 100 teas. Wish me luck!
Thanks to hapatite for this sample! I really liked this one! I made the original for my BF this AM, and the roasted for me. I liked the original a little better, but both are good.
If you’re into milky sweet tea, this would be an excellent portable tea. It’s smooth and pleasant.
Preparation
This tea can be overly sweet depending on my mood, but for some reason I am in love with it, very mild yet the tea flavor comes in just over the sweet milky part.
I use boiling water (100C) to brew then I dunk a bunch of times to get all the milk powder into the tea, I like to let it lit for a bit to get a stronger flavor, as of yet I have not run in to any bitterness with this.
Preparation
The 3:15 PM brand teas are bagged, not loose. But the bags are much larger than usual in order to accomodate both tea leaves and the milk powder that’s included. The dry aroma is slightly sweet, but toasty. I wouldn’t smell too hard though, as you’re likely to end up with milk powder in your nose.
When brewing I like to leave the bag in an infuser. It helps to keep clean up simpler. The bagged material produces a Khaki colored liquor which is completely opaque. The resulting aroma is fairly identical to that from the unused bag: slightly sweet and toasty.
The flavor is one which I think would appeal to coffee drinkers everywhere. It’s roasty and creamy with hints of sweetener (because it contains refined sugar). While there’s a notable drying of the palate, the roasty taste sticks around through a very long tail and leaves you yearning for more.
