Well it’s raining in Oklahoma City so a black tea it is. I’m drinking Mount Everest which I picked up from Souvia Teas in Phoenix, AZ during Christmas. Turns out this amazing store was across the street from where I was staying, so I couldn’t help but to indulge myself.
I just started drinking this tea and I don’t normally drink black tea so I steeped it for five minutes even which I think may have been a little bit to long. On my next steep I will try four and a half minutes, and if that doesn’t taste right I will try four minutes. Again I’m new to the black tea, so any suggestions would be helpful.

I usually steep my black tea for 3-3:30 minutes. I find that anything over 4 tends to be bitter or overly strong. Hope this helps a bit.
Well I usually make a large cups of tea, that’s why I give it the extra minute or two. Thank you for the info, I will try three and a half minutes on my re-steep.
If you’re looking to experiment with black tea steeping times, definitely stick to the shorter end of the spectrum. Nothing’s worse than bitter, over steeped black tea. Also, welcome to Steepster! It’s a great site here.

Thanks Erin. I will keep that in mind, and yes I am enjoying this site so much and I’ve only been here for barely even a day.
