146 Tasting Notes
I received a sample sachet with an order of tea from Harney & Sons. I really like English Breakfast tea, but I have to say that although this tea was nice, it had no distinguishing characteristics. It wasn’t offensive in any way, but…I don’t really have a reason to buy it. It was a mild, average-flavored black tea.
Flavors: Floral, Toast
I tried this tea again after owning it for awhile. I think it degrades VERY quickly, more quickly than other brands. The lid was tightly fitted on the tin the whole time I had it. Maybe my tastes have changed. I am fasting and I have noticed that my sense of taste and smell is extremely acute. I do not drink soft drinks or energy drinks, or smoke, so I think my sense of taste is as true to what I like as possible. This tea leaves a sour taste in my mouth; it used to be a favorite. Maybe if I had a fresh tin it would be different. getting rid of the remainder, it did not last well.
Flavors: Dust, Sour
Preparation
I really like this tea! LOTS of flavor. Sure it’s more expensive than many others, but it’s worth it. Will definitely buy again. Love the combination of Sencha and Matcha. Great quality.
Flavors: Evergreen, Grass
Preparation
There just isn’t much flavor in this tea at all. I’ve given it several tries and I wonder if I got an old tin? Mainly a flavor of cardboard and dust. I’ve tried increasing the amount of tea, and that didn’t help. Out it goes.
Flavors: Cardboard, Dust
Preparation
I don’t think this tea has a berry flavor at all. And it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, which makes me wonder about the “natural” strawberry and raspberry flavors. The underlying matcha and the green tea are not great. I’ve given it several tries and I’m tossing it out. Supremely disappointed with Harney. Won’t be buying from them again.
Flavors: Artificial, Dust
Preparation
Gave this tea one last shot. Went by the instructions on the tin EXACTLY. Used filtered water. Used a timer and was right there to pull the tea out. Still…slight bitterness. And really no “caramel flavoring” at all. Tossing this one out too. Harney, what happened? I used to LOVE your teas; they tasted SO good. Now, blech.
Flavors: Bitter
Preparation
Disappointing. I prefer a strong dark chocolate flavor and a strong black tea; this isn’t it. I find the flavor quite weak, even when I add tea leaves. Worst of all, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Tossing it out, not worth drinking.
Flavors: Sour, Watery
This is a very sweet tea. I have been drinking only minimally processed high-grade black, oolong, pu’erh, or green teas, and decided to do a sip down on this one (and get the can out of my tea supplies). It tastes processed; yet it is a childhood type of flavor, of candy canes and the winter holidays. It is also green rooibos, which I have grown to loathe. But in this tea, it tatses and smells of candy canes, which is simultaneously pleasant and annoying as I have given up added sugar for health reasons. Bye bye Peppermint Bark, won’t be buying again.
Flavors: Alcohol, Peppermint, Sugar
I really disliked this one until I tried steeping it at 190F for three minutes. Somehow that rescued it, but I only drink it when I get free samples. I haven’t been motivated to order it, but maybe I should since it is organic. I just prefer other black teas for breakfast usually.
