1113 Tasting Notes
Matcha/Green TTB #7
This tea smelled funny to me so I decided to try it.
The leaf does a halfway dance as it brews which is ‘eh’
I really enjoy the semi sweet taste that comes through this tea; it is very similar to a natural fruit sweetness.
My problem with this tea is that I was unable to drink past 6 ounces of this. As the level of enjoyment decreased it just wasn’t very appealing.
This is the darkest shou I have brewed. At 20 seconds steeps it was too strong of a taste for me so I switched over to flash-5seconds. There is a lot of life in this tea to taste. Very smooth mouth feel and the aroma doesn’t linger around which some could say is good or bad. Overall it is a nice shou, but not one that makes me throw my head back and savor what I just experienced.
Tonight, I discover a tea that will be a black staple of mine.
The aroma filled my room unexpectedly
The golden brewed vividly
The taste made me login to Steepster to review this before the other 8 teas I drank earlier today.
Next up is finding an amazing dian hong :)
Found this in stash swap box (I had to make one, isn’t it an awesome idea?) and decided that a dark oolong sounded great at the time. I was right, it was great at the same and maybe at all times.
This brewed dark and had a nice brisk taste. My favorite part of it would be the after taste. Smooths out and taste semi sweet on the tongue which is odd for a darker oolong, my experience that is.
The only reason I rate this down is the infusion itself being compared to some of the 2015 oolongs that I have received fresh make it easy to spot out that this one isn’t as fresh as it once was.
Matcha/Green TTB #6
I had to grab this one since it was the lonely Teavana tea asking to be steeped. While the leaf looks a little dark, it actually brews a beautiful light colored liquid that has a faint smell. The taste is mild, but pure with a very smooth touch from the first sip to the last. The after taste doesn’t leave a dry taste in the mouth either. Overall this is a pretty nice tea, however the flavor is a bit mild for what I would want. Somewhat hard to pick up.
This takes the prize for being the most bitter oolong I have ever had. It’s like an unrolled kudding tea. Really rough to continue drinking this one down.
I was really looking forward to it as well.
185f for 3 minutes and then tried it again for 2 1/2 on the second steep because I really wanted this oolong to make friends with my taste buds. :/
Nothing beats kudding for bitterness, LOL.
Probably should try gongfu with this one, starting with a rinse & super short steeps. :)
I followed M&K’s instructions on the package… but you are probably right, it’s all gone now though because it was a sample.
L.P. I just tried it myself at 3 min, 185F and it was very bitter. WHO CAME UP WITH THESE DIRECTIONS? (hint: it was me).
Do you think I should modify the directions to suit a gongfu style brewing? To keep it consistent I have western style on all our other teas, so I’d rather keep it that way. Maybe reduce the steeping time a lot? Or I could cut it from 1tbsp to a lower amount, but I think it may still be bitter. Thanks for the feedback.
I’m unsure… most teas you can just give them a hot bath and drink them whenever with no problem. May change the taste, but it generally works. This one might have to be flash steeps at 190f. I’ve done that with some darker oolongs.
I’m no expert, but I usually go gongfu with this type of tea, on the other hand, you might also try multiple steeps of 1/2/& 5 minutes. As the owner of the company, since you have access to plenty of the tea, I suggest you try it several different ways & see which one makes you the happiest! :)
Matcha/Green TTB #5
I’m not done with these two guys!
Anyways, there is one big problem here everyone: You will never get to experience or see how hard I laughed at I drank this tea… for whatever reason this tasted like curry so I am not even going to rate it. I am pretty sure that once you read this and my other review you may dismiss me as someone who can evaluate tea, but I assure you that isn’t the case. Try this one for yourself!
Matcha/Green TTB #4
I cannot explain this salty fruit taste right now… so I will just make you all think I’m crazy (or high) again:
As I drink this down I realize that I am drinking a very rare fruit tea. This fruit is actually a parasite that lives on zebras. Surprisingly the fruit takes on the black and white color to fit in, but what is a delicacy of this fruit is how it feeds off of the perspiration of the zebra. Sometimes these fruits are obtained and then dehydrated before the flavor can be extracted for various usages. One of them being to flavor this tea. This fruit is very similar to papaya but has a salty taste to it…
That is enough enough… the only issue I have with this tea is the funky taste.
Matcha/Green TTB #3
I don’t know what marmalade is, nor have I Google’d it yet (because that is how my generation ,if not the world, does to find out information)
I was confused as I saw this in the TTB… I looked at it and said to myself, “who the heck puts a black tea in a green TTB?”
That is to say, this is by far the darkest green tea I have ever laid eyes on. I brewed this up and drank it down quick to get up and rebrew it; meaning I really like it.
