1113 Tasting Notes
Since I made more packages for bloggers than bloggers that wanted tea from me, I decided to try the special 3 way flavored black dragon pearls I made for them :)
I’m not sure how to classify this taste, but as I am sipping it this is what I think of: Black tea infused cotton candy
I drank this at work yesterday and really enjoyed it.. but it came with some bad thoughts. Here’s my dilemma… the world of loose leaf seems to be quite simple if you stick with a large company like David’s Tea because there are always seasonal flavors, multiple levels of quality, and consistency. Sometimes, not often though, I want to be lazy and give into these larger companies because they do have access to all the pretty looking tins and interesting flavors. However, I find beauty in having a relation with the person who makes the product I purchase. One of the best feels ever is having someone cook for you, write a personal song for you, draw a picture for you… so what about a tea for the voices?
David’s Tea is hella good, I can’t even lie… their selection is great, they have good prices, and people have so many pounds of it that it makes its way around.
Now it’s time for me to deduce the effects of emotions and the consumer when it comes to large corporations and small companies; from emotions we must conclude that logic plays an important part due to the concept of an economy that revolves around fiat money though… thoughts and thoughts.
Anyways, this is crisp, refreshing, and while I still dislike black tea, this was nice :)
I like small vendors and I like the idea of supporting direct sourcing but I still shop with Harney & Sons. :)
I agree. I always look forward to chatting with the owners of Carytown Teas here in RVA. They have helped me quite a bit along the way on my tea journey. It was during one of our conversations that we discussed a blend that I had created at home. Now they offer my Virginia Breakfast tea blend – Blended by them of course! It is my one tiny claim to tea fame. :) They’ve also scored me some nice little samples. It’s often a very good thing to be a faithful customer at a small tea shop! And like you, Nicole, I still shop with good old Harney too.
Finally writing about this new oolong I have acquired :)

First thing I noticed right away is that the stock that I am being sent isn’t having the massive pieces removed, but I love it this way :) https://instagram.com/p/7EETPLRYLu/?taken-by=liquidproust
At first I was thinking that it would be annoying to get gloves and hand sort this out from the pure leaf and leaf on stem… but, it seems that people would enjoy some stem if I provided it in there. Now as for the aroma, I’m quite unsure how to explain it so the best I can say is a cross between legit anxi and alishan… so not 100% floral, but it’s there. Though, looks and smell aside, the taste is what I am hoping works out. Now I was planning to pair this up with some fresh blueberries and some purple or blue flowers, but as I was tasting it I realized something very strange: this tea brew a thick liquid. The thickness of this tea is similar to that of melted butter, so yeah it does take some pressure to push through your teeth. I’m not so sure how a thick tea would paid with blueberry, but at the very least I need to try right?
Side note: I was imagining how crazy gyokuro would be if it was picked this way…
I agree, thick mouthfeel tea would be weird with blueberry, unless it were something creamy, like blueberry CUSTARD oolong (which I would die for).
Oh how I love liquid :)

So here we go:
First thing I want to say is that Tuesday night was full of different flavors… which was quite interesting to contract multiple things with our taste buds. Much of what was discovered was predicted correctly by me.
For starters, it felt really weird leaving some tea in win. However… I did it because that is how Capital Teas marketed this blend. This became a waste of money, While the idea is pretty interesting and the the blend was a sencha with cherry, wine just seems to be too strong to really get any light notes of a green tea into it. I think for mixing with win, if anything is used, maybe a strong white tea or a light black tea… but I don’t know if I would like a decent wine/tea mixture. I shall continue to try them though.
The jasmine tea ginger ale is very crisp which can provide a smooth transition from being hot to cooling down with a strong mouth feel and taste. Not much jasmine to be detected, but it is there.
Now… that 2013 ripe Menghai Dayi was the main feature! Steep one through four were strong and experimented with some Root which is a lapsang souchong liqueur. I will make a huge caution, this alcohol is 40% which is pretty strong. The taste of that stuff with pu’erh was like WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHH.However, going forward to steep… maybe 16 or 18, maybe even 22, this ripe tea kept it’s deep complexity without falling apart too much after steep 10. The liquid kept a 80% hue to it as we continued to drink it and the smell faded some, but the taste was consistent which is what I am most happy with :)
Bathroom breaks: 5
Time: 3 hours
Liquid: something like 1 glass of wine, half a ginger ale, 40 cups of pu’erhs
I.Am. Trying. So. Hard. To. Acquire. The Liking. For. Black. Tea.
This ‘BS’ is one deep tea, but.. it’s a black base… but… but… I want to taste and experience what others have/will!!!
Took me a while too. I had to drink it western style if a mug without thinking about it too much, but now I enjoy it. Some of the time.
Have you tried Honey Black from Green Terrance Teas? I think you’d like that one. It’s simple but quite nice.
What does BS stand for?
Your tastes will change over time and you may grow to love black teas…. or may not. Just go with the flow! I was never a lover of black teas but I have a few favourites now. There are certain elements/tastes of some black teas that I will never like though.
For a lot of us, black tea was the only kind of tea we knew. I remember how excited I was to discover “Formosa Oolong” in 1972.
So today I decided to pull out something different and make my brother drink it with me. I kind of lied about it because I told him we were going to drink mushrooms straight up. He gave me an ugly look… but he does trust me with tea so he went with it. To his, and my , surprise this tea is one bold cup of comfort. The black tea used in this is of course a Whispering Pines tea and therefore, from my collected data, it will/is/shall/can/may/has/moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee great.
This is a tea that I would not buy on my own because I would see the mushroom and pass it up, but I am glad I tried it because it is wonderful.
I will be honest: While drinking of this I knew it would be better if a frog was drinking it with me ;)
Whoever sent me this, THANK YOU
My grandma, who is insanely active for a 92 year old women, came to me asking for tea which is rare but I was like : ’ dang, all I have is a lot of pu’erh, oolong, and crazy stuff’.
BUT, I found a sample of this tea in my swap box from someone which made me very very happy. I brewed this very interesting herbal tea up and drank some with my mom and grandma. This is some good stuff, it’s like chocolate but not chocolate, but also not like chocolate but still chocolate…
I will say this: While drinking this, my creative brain was spinning and I remembered that I’ll be roasting Milk Oolong soon… why not try roasting cacao as well?
So many things to try :)
I was told by my family that I need to buy this and show them how to make it :p
Here is to a wonderful Saturday night :)

This tea had me feeling great by steep 6, however… I’m not sure what happen but the tea became more bitter as I went on. Normally the opposite happens so I’m not exactly sure what the heck happened. I ended up going to 3-5s steeps but even that didn’t help. Regardless, I drank quite a bit and it was a great time!
Side note… Liquid Proust Teas actually had a fantastic week so I decided to re-up on the DianHong and convince myself to just go HARD and purchase the pu’erh that I deemed quality enough to use for the Pu’erh Candy Bar blend coming up!
Back to sheng: I really want to find something like Mandela’s Wild Monk… that tea floored me hard. Searching is actually quite fun, I would have never thought shengs to have different variants beyond tree locations. Tea just keeps becoming more interesting :)
Thank goodness someone gifted me this… I am sitting here insanely tea sloshed and it feels amazing. This is the second best sheng I have ever had. Number one is easily Mandala’s Wild Monk because . However, just because this isn’t what I would label as #1 doesn’t mean it isn’t amazing. This sheng is absolutely beautiful. The color is deep and solid as if it is thick. The texture is wonderful but I can’t explain it well enough.
The taste is very pure and it has a touch of wild with any bitterness which is making me a very happy person. The deep taste to this is very intriguing because the mouth feel lingers for a good 12 seconds or so, the feel not just the taste.
As I take nice gulps of this I feel my eyes begin to weigh more, or so I think. This feeling is amazing… almost like drinking gyokuro while laying on a cloud on a beautiful spring day. It provides the same feeling that food does for the itis.
EVERYONE. SHOULD. DRINK.THIS.TEA.
My goodness is this amazing! It reminds me of Japanaese black gyokuro :)
Are these in your etsy store?
