1113 Tasting Notes

drank Bubbie's Baklava by DAVIDsTEA
1113 tasting notes

Rewind back to the comment I made about Davids Tea and Lupcia…
Now apply that comment to this. There is almost no need to try any other blend like this because its so dang good that I don’t need anything ‘better’.
This is the kind of tea that when I sip my eyes kind of close together as if they are smiling for my mouth while I’m drinking.

Daylon R Thomas

Good lord…Backlava oolong….

Daylon R Thomas

And egregious spelling. Baklava.

I’m just one odd dude…

Here I am, all hyped up with speakers blasting that Rapzilla and drinking a roasted oolong!
It is kind of like I’m four months ahead of everyone else fighting off the lack of heat that others call cold weather. Of course I’m pushing the limits of going SSJ2 just by the mixture of good liquid entering my body giving me the ki I need, but add some sound waves that activate the electrical/chemical reactions needed to ellivates ones mood… I’m there.

Whatever, I’m just saiyan I am in a great mood (in my own dialect I suppose)

Liquid nom. Medium roasted TGY is much better than dark roasted because you can taste the olive color (do colors have taste) when you open up the leaf.

Another Pine that Whispers, and one that I was so tempted by.

Literally don’t know…what???
Whatever, I’ll try:
So I’ve drank http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Golden-Tea-Bud-Aged-Shu-Puer-Tea-Cake-357g-P261-/171428508099?hash=item27e9ef71c3 on three different occasions now to try to figure it out. Google wasn’t helping me find out what ‘Chitsu Pingcha’ should taste like so I’m unsure if I have this wrong, but this is one of three things: something I don’t like, a fake cake, or something I don’t understand. I would never tell someone that ripe pu’erh taste liked a fermented vegetable that was gently smoked, but that is what this tea is; which is odd, but it requires a few taste to try and figure it out.
Very confused about this tea… however, there is something I am sure about as I taste this: This tea was absolutely aged in bamboo leaf. That taste is very evident which is nice, but it doesn’t have the notes that every other ripe tea I’ve had contained. Maybe this is a unique type of ripe that I am not accustom to yet and if so, I have lots of it to change that.

Translates as Qi Zi (compressed) Bing Cha (round tea).

Compressed cake – that’s stating the obvious.

After drinking this between three different days I have decided that it will be one out of three that will compete to be my work stash. I had thought about putting a kilogram of oolong in a tin at work since it’s my favorite tea, but I wasn’t sure which one to use. After having all the thoughts I realized that I wanted something consistent and enjoyable inside, outside, cold, and hot. The bonus to this one meeting those conditions was the price. I’ve never bought from Eco Cha so I didn’t know what I would be looking at… dang, they are cheap.

The contest will happen soon and I am excited :)

Unroasted jade Oolongs always make me feel great, which I need in a work tea

It just looks very suspicious before its brewed…

Testing Tuesday with Oolong :)

Milk oolong:
Capital Teas is just succulent and a step above all other milk oolongs that I’ve tasted. Teavivre has milk oolong that is 25% larger than other ones which is interesting, but with tea size tends to mean little to nothing outside of aesthetics. Republic of tea is the lowest of these three and is probably what should be used to introduce someone to milk oolong because it does have a hard to describe taste to it.

Now, drinking that much milk oolong is rough… the taste just isn’t as appealing after the 10th cup or so, but I had to stay strong and do it. As for a cup of milk oolong, any of these three work which is nice; it just comes down to preference, but there is a quality difference between them as well.

Now onto one of my favorites: Tieguanyin.
Premium Fuji Anxi from Berylleb
First Grade from Tea Table
and
Premium from Mandela

This order is backwards. Now, Berylleb is my favorite Ebay store for sure but this tea was disappointing because it attaches the word premium when it seems that it is the free sample TGY that is used a lot as gifts. Berylleb has sold me some of the best oolong I’ve had at $52 for 250g which is great, but this does not stack up to that quality. The leaf is tiny and rather ripped with a smell that it too strong. Switching to the grade one from tea table was interesting because it was the darkest leaf and darkest color after being brewed. The taste is deep for a TGY, more like an indoor floral and not an outdoor floral. Now onto the Mandela which was the greenest of all, in this case it does say something about what is to come. Mandela’s TGY brewed a delicate cup that needed attention since it was light enough to sip and be too focused on something else to notice it. That’s why the Mandela tonight was a great outdoor and the Tea Table was good for inside. I find this to be true on certain Wuyi as well when it comes to colder weather or warmer weather depending on the notes it has or warmth it provides.

Daylon R Thomas

The Mandala was one of my favorites, though, forgive me for my bad pun, you have to master gong fu to perfect it. It’s so high maintenance….but brewing it is an art form, so like you said, it needs care and attention. To compensate, the gong fu aspect acts as stress relief and meditation for me.

I hope this explains as much as it did to me: These steeped 11 times and they were still asking for more, but I had to end them short.

Almost all white teas are elegant and this one isn’t part of the exception.

I bought a pack of three of these guys and sent two off without trying the one I kept first. Well, I tried it tonight and now I know that I was probably wrong to send them off. First of all, I am unable to find this one on the store site but Amazon sells it (super overpriced at $19 for three pieces at .05oz)

As I tried to take my third sip this is what I decided: This is not an oolong tea and with the temperatures that I brewed it at this ‘oolong’ tea is semi burnt which gives a funky taste. The water I used was 180f which is not an issue for even the greenest oolongs I’ve had, but for the green tea that is used on this tea it wasn’t the prescribed bating conditions.

This led me to a fun discovery via Googl’ing stuff to find this: http://www.tealaden.com/department/tea-drops-flowering-teas-350.cfm
They have an oolong one… I may have to try theirs.
Then I watched this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1vgITST_xE
Let me ask this question: If anyone referenced tampon at any point of any tea process would it be really awkward for you?

Roswell Strange

No, because menstruation (and lets face it – it’s not the tampon that makes people uncomfortable, it’s what it’s used for) is a biological thing that’s unavoidable and people who menstruate should feel safe and comfortable talking about instead of feeling the urge to keep it ‘secret’ because menstraution is viewed as shameful or is sexualized. Then again, I’m maybe a little more liberal minded than the average person – and not everyone shares the same ideologies I do.

Liquid Proust

Roswell Strange I have the same thoughts. During college a friend and I were talking about how much our culture has this emphasis that the breast on a women are sexual and therefore they are to be hidden… lots of thoughts and what not, but it comes down to men being ridiculous.
But, word for word this is what the video says: “Defiantly not like how they show it on TV, they make it seem like it happens instantly. Like open like a tampon.”
Maybe it’s just me… and sorry for these images, but when someone is brewing a tea and talking about it absorbing water and opening up the last thing I want it to be compared to is a tampon. It’s two people having fun and I liked the video; in other words, I thought about it too much.

Roswell Strange

Don’t even get me started LP…

The way some people are offended by breasts is ridiculous because they serve a PRACTICAL BIOLOGICAL PURPOSE. I hate when people get offended by people breastfeeding in public because “boobies are sex objects”. Excuse you? And then people have the nerve to say stuff like “Well, if you can show your boobs in public can I pull my dick out in public!?”. Are you going to feed it to your baby? I certainly hope not. They’re not comparable – the real comparison would be flashing clitoris in public as the clitoris has no purpose except for arousal. And I don’t see anyone advocating for the right to show clit in public…

I’m gonna stop there though, ‘cause I’m sure this isn’t the conversation Dr Jim had in mind when he replied. I’ll just keep my ‘radical’ opinions to myself :P

But point is – I’m not uncomfortable with people comparing tea to tampons. Especially when tea paraphernalia like this exists:

I did get you started and I wanted to. My persoective is thin and it won’t enlarge unless I have an open conversation with others about things I am not constantly talking or thinking about. There is beauty in how everyone thinks differently and in this case there is a tragic issue that comes about as we dicuss the crude remarks and thoughts on women vs men on what is acceptable and what is not. These conversations should occur with passion and not hatred. I am curious to know if you think the western mind and the eastern mind differ widely on sexual remarks and thoughts. P.s. tea can bring about many conversations

Had this one at work with no idea that there was oolong in it until I poured it out. I never would have thought there would be a green oolong mixture with a peppermint leaf added into it. I probably should have waited for it to be cold to enjoy this more, but it was still good since I was inside drinking it while I worked :)
Interesting mixture that satisfied the mint desire a tea drinker may have, but I don’t think I had a note of cream in this tea… I’m curious what a creamy mint would be like with a tea, maybe a butter-mint?

Roswell Strange

Ever had DAVIDsTEA’s Cocomint Cream? That’s kind of like a creamy mint tea – but it’s herbal (and had a lot of apple).

Decided to take this one into work today after AllanK called me out on not reviewing it yet :P

Anyways, this tea is very smooth and quite consistent with its steeps. I ended up with a good 17ish steeps while at work with this tea and each time the taste was enjoyable. The interesting parts about this tea fall into three different comments that I would like to make:
This tea does not have any fermentation notes. This tea does not leave a dryness after drinking it for awhile. This tea has a slight sweetness to it which is quite nice for a ripe tea. I really enjoy that it is loose too because it makes it a quick fix at work (multiple times)

With all that being said, I’m unsure what cassia is suppose to taste like… but whatever, a good tea is a good tea right?

I’ll dedicate 100g to swapping so if anyone would like some just let me know :)

Woke up over an hour early before I need to head to work so what do I do… pu’erh session of course :)

12 steeps before I head to work. I’ll admit that being tired in the morning I don’t have a lot to say about the tea itself, but it was enjoyable and I feel quite awake. I suspect that once I sit in my chair at work I’ll become tired once again. The taste of this is pure, basic, and smooth.
