1113 Tasting Notes

drank Furyu: Awa Bancha by Yunomi
1113 tasting notes

This was probably the worst smelling tea I’ve had in awhile; reminded me of a dead tree that was once a human but turned into a plant and then died a plant.

While it may not be that strong and what not, but the smell… what the heck?

MissB

But what did it taste like? :)

Liquid Proust

Imagine a green tea has gone sour but vegetable sour…
I suggest Toss Bancha, I bought me a nice amount of it from YUNOMI because it’s like a roasted oolong but lighter

Liquid Proust

On my phone.. I’ll fix this listing tomorrow. Furyu is the maker not the tea

So, as some may have already read, I hate cherries! However, my mom really likes cherries and keeps asking me to make a cherry tea and I’m like: “heck no mom, I have no idea how cherry could taste good so I’m not going to try to make something I dislike”

So thankfully this was made and I was able to make my mom a cup…. like a huge 16 ounce full. Upon seeing the brew of the liquid and aroma, I had to try it because I figured a cherry oolong with some coffee bean would smell much stronger and be a bit darker than it was. The taste came out as smooth and balanced, but that is all I will say.

From my perspective: The mixture is 95% in contact/full. That speaks volumes in regards to tea blends because the majority are around 75% that I’ve noticed. I’m just picky because I hate flavors being added to leaf of low quality to offset the actually leaf taste. The oolong used in this blend is nice so that makes me happy.

I’ll get to my teas from Q2T soon and should have more positive remarks.

gmathis

Cherry is really hard to get right. This sounds plausible; many end up tasting like soda syrup or cough medicine.

Liquid Proust

Does not taste like syrup, I can attest to that.

There is literally nothing to add to what Daylon said as his review was exactly what I found. A dry semi roasted broken up white tea.
It sounded awesome which is why I bought it. I may just stick to my furry white teas as they seem to be the only ones I end up enjoying.

Pu’erh TTB 2015 Tea #18

This was one smooth tea. The liquid was rather dark leading me to think I’d pick up a strong taste, but it’s a calm/weak tea. While I enjoyed the multiple steeps of liquid that didn’t disrupt my tastebuds or awaken them to something new, this isn’t something I would see myself buying. If it was a bit stronger and kept the smoothness I would actually consider it because it was very close to having a silk like texture along with the finish it was overall clean.

Drinking this makes me happy to have bought October’s subscription box.
The dark notes in this tea are met with the undertone floral notes from the TGY to create a savory cup with each steep. It may not be the perfect balance for me, but it is a wonderful cup that mixes autumn and spring together in one cup to taste like whatever the mixture would be called. I wish the leaf was more consistent because some leaf opens with the rinse and other leaf opens after four steeps which makes me believe I may not have a complete tasting each time… whatever. This is much better than the 3 year aged TGY that was in the box though and I was looking forward to it.

This is the kind of review that I write once every two months or so and I really don’t like them.
I always try to add positive notes about a tea I have drank along with the crowd that would enjoy it. Unfortunately, sometimes there are products that don’t get recommended such as fish at McDonalds.

This cake can be broken with the pressed of one finger and I’m not exaggerated. I can send a video to demonstrate if you’d like, though that isn’t an issue for me because I’m after taste and feel from a tea.
I pulled out four cups to try different timing with this tea at 100c which is what I always use for ripe. Every single cup to the 8th steep (where I stopped) had a grainy texture to the taste with a little musk. The fermentation flavor is here for sure, but has a lot of friends that I do not like. This mouth feel after is a medium dryness which I can’t get over. It’s about the same as drinking 16ounces of roasted green tea, but all of that into 2 ounces of liquid.

Honestly, the 2015 Green Miracle is a cake everyone should buy because it is absolutely amazing for being such a young little guy but this Hui Run isn’t something I can imagine drinking a year from now… though it will be next year when I open it back up to try again.

If anyone has any previous year to swap I would love to see if this is the same qualities of the other ones and maybe realize some people enjoy these tasting notes.

tea123

How did you brew it? How much leaf to water?

Liquid Proust

What I brewed it in would not change the taste enough to make it unnoticeable. I used 6 grams to about 4 ounces of water.

tea123

Thanks. Just wondered if maybe you were using too much leaf, but I guess you are not.

Liquid Proust

I can send you some to confirm :)

mrmopar

LP sit on this a year and let it age like the Green Miracle, which I have you to blame for ordering, and I think it will change. This was fermented this year (2015) so it will have the brash edge to it. 6 months down the road and it will have settled some. After a year a bigger change.

Liquid Proust

You mean thank me? The Green Miracle is amazing regardless of its age. It’s strong with a nice texture that resembles cream. The taste is also solid! This Hui Run though… there is no way age will make the ‘dirt’ texture vanish. You would just have to steep it to see what I mean, it’s like dust was splashed in all 8 steeps.

mrmopar

I have to give an answer for the thank/blame around here I have to justify any new stuff so I just thanked/blamed you LOL! :P
I do think a year will see a change though. Young shou can be VERY unpleasant. I rarely drink any shou under 2 years old because of this. Just air it out a while. And thanks/blame for the notes on the Green Miracle. I do look forward to that one. :P

Liquid Proust

Have you not tried the Green Miracle yet?

tea123

Mrmopar – do yunnan sourcing not air off the shu like Menghai?

mrmopar

Haven’t tried that one yet LP. Soon enough though. tea123 I think they do some but some I think they don’t. I know Menghai holds their stuff at least 6 months. I think some of the YS ones are held, as the Green Miracle, others maybe not.

This is the second new offer from Verdant that I’ve drank and I’m not feeling it.
There isn’t any floral notes that I associate with TGY teas :/

The liquid is thick like an Assam and brew rather quick so I ended up switching to 12 second steeps because it was a bit strong. The end result was essentially a honey black tea. With 90c at 12 seconds it was smooth, but at 100c for 10+ seconds there were dry and bitter notes.
I had to test this tea pretty thoroughly because of the sales going on as well as my new thing is to send off teas that I don’t particular become fond of to others. I’ll try to find this a place were someone likes there blacks to be a bit bold (though, I love me a bold Dian Hong)

Today I bought a few teas into work because I thought I could get them out of the way… aka, these were ones that I thought wouldn’t taste good.
A yellow tea was easily picked because I have yet to have a good yellow tea. All the yellows (only six) that I have drank have been a bit musky and odd with the nut notes.

This one however was a bit thicker and had some fur on it which made me think different when I opened it up. The look of the leaf appealed to me so I took my time and measured everything out right at work and ended up steeping this twice :)

The nutty notes work quite well with the warmth that this tea is at when steeped. The ‘funk’ isn’t detected in this tea which makes me quite glad because I’ve really disliked my yellow tea journey so far. The yellow from What Cha was close, but it was too strong. This one is a bit delicate but still lets you know who it is.

Thanks Amanda, I probably would have never bought this to try after all my other experiences. Glad I tried it :)

I drank the Mountain Tea version from a swap and really disliked it. This time around I tried different steeping parameters which eventually came down to 7 second steeps. Normally, I never ever steep an oolong under 15 seconds but this one is just super strong. The roast gets too powerful if steeped longer than 10 seconds and the texture becomes dry. I like the buttery after taste when kept at low times, yet this still isn’t a tea that I like. It might provide a strong cup of tea with nutty remarks and a great texture (while lasting a long time) but it just isn’t my cup of tea. This is something I would suggest someone try though because for the amount it steeps it is a bargain. The mineral notes are a little upfront too like an oolong can be :)

Dr Jim

Thanks for the warning. I’ll try this with shorter steeps than normal.

This is a qued rating because of one of the gifts in the Oolong Sampler. The two who haven’t paid, it’s being spoiled…
So the aged oolong sampler had two nice people gift the 1979 Beauty :)
I asked for two samples and got four, one of them was this.

holy shit
I’ve drank a lot of green oolong, a ton, and this went into the top 3 on the first session.
I’ll be getting 4 ounces of this next year for sure.
