1 Tasting Note
i ordered this shincha some time ago but did not have particularly high expectations since the price seemed relatively average. but this tea did really surprise me. it is so balanced with its vegetal flavor and some fruitiness and for a shincha quite high umami. what I especially like about this tea is that it does not get overly intense (when for example overbrewed) or bitter.
further notes:
infusion colour: light green but not too yellow; turns to darker green
smell: vegetal, light brothy umami, light sweet seaweed
texture: thick
taste: lightly sweet, medium salty and balanced umami, slightly buttery, slight but not
too intense asparagus
later infusions: gets sweeter but less saltiness and umami
aroma: cooked leaves, spinach, slight seaweed
price: 50g for 11€ seems a fair price for me considering the resulting cups of tea you get. i had many senchas/shinchas before for similar prices that were lacking in richness and flavour and also had too much bitterness for my taste. this tea is rich, flavourful and not bitter at all.
i hope teewald will stock some shincha or sencha of that quality in 2019!
