230 Tasting Notes
I often have trouble with Chai teas. I can never seem to find one that I like. The same thing happens with pumpkin spice teas. HOWEVER, I LOVE this tea! As someone said in a earlier note this TRULY tastes like PUMPKIN. The spices are balanced and it has a very nice flavor. I drank it without any sugar/milk and I thought it tasted like a great pumpkin tea. When I added in a little bit of rock sugar / milk the chai flavors really became apparent. Since I am not a HUGE chai fan I will go back to drinking it straight. THIS IS A REAL winner for me.
P.S. I got this from the tea review blog monthly swap. If you are interested you can look check it out at http://www.teareviewblog.com/?page_id=1706 or on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/teaswap/.http://www.teareviewblog.com/
This is not for me. I have tried it several times and all I get is a bitter malt brew. Not rating it because I am unsure if this is me, how I am brewing or the tea. Putting this up for swaps. Anyone want to try it? I have quite a bit I brought back from London a few months back.
Sorry for the delay in posting my longer review of the October offering from handmade tea. Life has been crazy, been traveling, etc.
The joy of handmade tea begins the moment you receive the package. I have the full monthly subscription which means every month I receive both the tea and the palate building ingredient samples. (If you want to try handmade tea for less $$ you can get a smaller subscription without the ingredient samples.) Handmade tea is a great fall-blend. The ingredient samples that are included are African Black Tea, cinnamon and ginger root, and allspice. The spices that were included are whole (as opposed to gound powder) and are the exact ingredients that are in the tea. I’m not entirely sure that I knew what allspice smelled like exactly until I got this tea.
After smelling the ingredient samples I smelled the dry tea. I really like the ingredient samples because I’m not sure I would be able to pick out the different ingredients. Not only can I SMELL the ingredients in the blend after smelling them on their own I can also SEE them in the dry tea. As an aside, now that I have familiarized myself with these samples I can now much more easily pick out the flavors in other teas.
As the tea brews I can smell the cinnamon and the ginger. At the first sip I get a slight pepper essence from the black tea base. The cinnamon, ginger, and allspice flavors are all PERFECTlY balanced. I have had some cinnamon blends that were like drinking red-hot candies – the opposite of this. I LOVE THIS TEA. I really think this is a perfect fall tea. I am already more then ½ way thought my 3oz and I DO NOT want this sample to run out.

This sounds amazing and I really like that approach. When I subscribe, it’ll definitely be to the full experience.
Not changing the rating on this one for today because I cant determine if it was my steeping or tastebuds or the tea. But it did not come out well and I drank less then 1/2 of my travel tumbler. Bla.
It’s always disappointing when a cup of tea is underwhelming, especially when it has such a fun name
Am drinking this right now. I survived my major dental work but oweeee my mouth and tongue certainly are hurting.
I love jasmine teas. This one the flavor is very subtle and soft. This is a staple tea in my cupboard and I cant believe I never logged it prior. I never think to log this one as it is simply always an option and always present. Nothing earth shattering but a good cup of tea to have by your side.
Dental work. =( Glad you’re through it, now, and on the mend. So much better to see it in the rear-view mirror. =)
This tea is so pleasant and understated. It is a great blend. I choose it today for the way to work as today I am getting a root canal. I am nervous, and really aggravated as I only learned of the need for this root canal YESTERDAY and my general M.O. is that these things need days and days notice so I can get myself ready. ARG. Back to the tea: it is simply a great blend. Maybe not toooooo brisk or jolt-y so generally I drink it mid-day not morning. BUT! today needed happy, calm, relaxing…etc.
I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to chai, I’ve found, but I’ve yet to drink a pumpkin blend that doesn’t just taste like pumpkin pie spices. Definitely have to try this.
@Nik, I know what you mean. But this one definitely doesn’t have that overly spicy flavor. It’s just fantastic!
