Winter White Earl Grey

Day Two working remote. This was supposed to be the last week of training at the office, but my cars are still stuck in the driveway. Fortunately, the city sent a report and said that they are going to plow all the side streets this afternoon. I’ve managed to get all the snow off the sidewalk, and the driveway salted; however, the road is untouched. I saw my neighbor, in their pickup, struggling to gain momentum on the road at 06:30, so I knew that there’d be no way getting the wife out onto the road and going. I was correct because we spent 35 minutes pushing the car back into the driveway.

I brewed a cup of the Winter White Earl Grey after that failed attempt. I had a cuppa last night for the YouTube channel, but this is one of those morning teas that I like to enjoy—especially before my typical wakeup time. It was quite lovely. I added nothing to the cup. I never desire any cream or sugar for this Earl Grey. I will add honey to almost every other Earl Grey that I sip on, except for this tea.

The following notes:

Dry leaf: bergamot, citrus, & floral notes.

Flavor: mellow, sweet, warming, vibrant, citrusy, floral, and that smooth bergamot note throughout the cup.

PS. I know that this wasn’t quite the “deep dive” into the session, but it’s a simple tea that doesn’t need too much explanation. Sorry for the long venting at the top : )

This has a very vegetal flavour to me and the bergamot is almost too subtle to notice. I feel this may be user error — perhaps too high a steeping temperature?

Another tea from ashmanra, and now a tea I actually liked very much. THANK YOU a lot!

Well, temperatures are hitting close to 30 even it’s around 10 am. There were cold days and kinda liked them bit more than those hot days. Yesterday I went to therapist, because my panic attacks and I had to get different pills (same effective drug, but different producer). To be honest it made me bit afraid. So, no more Elicea, but Cipralex now. But it should be same (I hope so).

Anyway to the tea. I almost let the water boil, but not completely. I think it could be around 90°C, if not even bit less.

Steeped for two, three minutes. Results were very nice — nice tea base, mellow, but present; lighlty vegetal, lighltly floral → nice white tea base. The bergamot (Earl Grey) notes were good, very refreshing, bit sour but nice for this hot day. This tea would be lovely if coldbrewed or iced, but as I had only one tea bag…

This is something I expected ashmanra. Really thank you for letting me try this tea, which was very nice to drink; and although it is not one of top ten teas I had, it was certainly worth trying. Maybe we are just more used to drink EG with bold tea base.

Another tea I had failed to add to my cupboard, so here it is added in and I am hoping to have some more sipdowns to celebrate soon.

I had a couple of students today – two sisters who take both piano and voice. Both had colds and decided to just do piano lessons today so we had spare time before their mom picked them up. I offered them tea for their sore throats and let them pick from my cupboard. I ket them rummage through my cookie stash and make a cookie plate as well. The youngest is not allowed to have caffeine and chose Vanilla Comoro (spoiler – she loved it) and the older girl chose this because she loves Earl Grey and had never tried a white one.

She was really happy with this, saying that some white tea disappoints her because she can not detect much flavor but this was very flavorful indeed. She added milk and sugar, I drank it plain.

I concur that it has tons of flavor. The base is nice and smooth and the bergamot doesn’t get sour/puckery. I really really dislike Earl Grey with a Ceylon base because the lemony notes in the tea plus the bergamot just equal big yucky SOUR taste to me. And heartburn. Not so with the white tea base.

This was in sachets because that was what the store had available, but these tear very easily along the heat sealed line and I just pour the loose tea into an infuser.

Their mom came in and saw the tea table set and joined us for a few Coconut and Chocolate Milano cookies and tea. More on Vanilla Comoro to come….

I’m not sure what to think of this EG. I get weird hints of smoke and minerals. The citrus/bergamot is nice, but I find the base lacks sweetness and is drying. This makes the cup a bit of a challenge to drink plain (I ended up adding a touch of sugar to mine).

I put this in my daily sipper, and let it sit for a long time as I worked. Was worried that due to the long time steeping, it would be bitter. Nope, just a nice flavorful and smooth bergamot tea. Cameron gave me two sachets so I look forward to having this again. :D

Ugh, so tired from a veritable flurry of cooking this morning and afternoon… And of course, from eating. ;)

I placed my first Black Friday order, from Harney & Sons, so I thought I would celebrate with one of their teas. I originally had Heirloom Bartlett Pear in mind, but saw this beautiful blue tin in my cupboard and changed my mind. Plus, it seemed a great excuse to try out my cute new 8-ounce teacup from David’s… (As it turns out, these sachets have plenty of tea for a 12-ounce cup anyway, but oh well!)

I feel like this tea is somewhat underrated on Steepster for some reason… It’s such a light and soft Earl, with the sweet hay and oat notes of the white tea forming such a comforting base for the subtle bergamot. There’s a nice honeyed note as well that adds a lovely sweetness. It’s not the most complex of teas, but I find it so delicious in its simplicity.

Such a lovely way to relax while petting a snoring pug and watching Kiki’s Delivery Service. Ahhhhh…

I had this tea on my wishlist for years, and finally bought it. While I prefer loose leaf tea, the tin box that the sachets come in was too pretty to pass up. I love white tea, and hoped this tea would be a great take on classic Earl Grey.
Unfortunately, this tea has nothing on classic black Earl Grey. I think the bergamot overpowers the delicate white tea. While it is not bad, I would definitely choose classic earl grey over this version.

I love Earl Grey and I love this tea. Tastes a bit lighter and more bergamoty than others, very enjoyable.

I’m going to start out this review by warning that I’ve never found an earl grey that I love. That said, I thought this one wasn’t bad. It’s a milder flavor than most others I’ve tried, and the bergamot isn’t over powering. I think I keep trying earl greys because I love the scent, but then the flavor is usually too much for me. This one is a nice compromise, with the lighter taste, and still a lovely scent. I tried this with just a bit of sugar, and no milk.
