From Den's Tea

Mecha is generated during the sifting process in the production of Sencha. It is made from coarse broken tea leaves and the first appearing baby tea buds which contain vital life-force energy. The brew is heartier than Sencha.

Origin: Shizuoka
Harvest: First Flush 2009
Species: Yabukita

Tasting Profile:
Mecha infuses a strong cup which is full of flavor, both sweetness and bitterness.

Den’s Preferred Brewing:
Water: 3oz @ 180F
Leaves: 2 grams or 1 rounded teaspoon
Steep: 60 sec
2nd Cup: Water boiled; Steep 15 sec

This tea is not for me. Very strong, bitter, and astringent. I brew all of my teas with a water to leaf ratio of about 8 oz/1.5 teaspoons. I can’t imagine brewing this tea with a 3 oz/1teaspoon ratio. It would be incredibly strong.

I disliked this tea so much that I had to mix it 50/50 with Den’s pineapple sencha and I brewed it cold. It tasted excellent when I brewed it this way.
