Cocomint Cream

Oh dear, this is like drinking an Almond Joy-Peppermint patty baby, which is not a positive experience. Its not horrid as far as coconut goes, and the mint will mask the worst of it, but its still strangely reminiscent of toothpaste. Where are the apple and blackberry leaves!? They could have made a huge difference.

Day 8 of the 24 Days of Tea calendar

Well…I knew it would happen sometime between the 1st and the 24th. A coconut tea. Yuck. I detest coconut. Bright side of this tea: the coconut flakes are BIG and can be picked out. The downside of this tea: there’s also “coconut flavouring” in the tea that obviously can’t be removed. Lovely. Why you gotta put so much coconut in your teas, David?! WHY?

I was expecting not to like this one at all. Not. At. All. Grossest of the Grossness. The smell, though…wasn’t so bad. Sure it was coconut-y, but almost like sunscreen? Not like actual coconut. “Simulated coconut tropical sunshine smell”. Weird. You don’t expect to ever drink that scent, but it is what it is.

Picked as much of the coconut crap out of this as I could prior to steeping, so my review is somewhat biased. Still got the wha-bam of coconut flavour once I added the water, though. And I must say…it almost tastes like I’m drinking watery sunscreen. This isn’t a pleasant taste. It’s not NEARLY as terrible as I thought it would be, thanks to the mint leaves, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to say this is good. Nope, definitely wouldn’t.

Verdict: you couldn’t pay me enough to buy it.

Just a couple more of these David’s winter/holiday teas to go! (Thanks again to Roswell Strange for sending me samples!) This one sounds rather odd to me, but some Steepsterites seem to really enjoy it. The tisane is mostly chunks of apple, though I can see coconut shreds and some crushed leaves. Dry scent is quite minty but I can smell the creamy coconut as well.

The aroma is both minty and coconutty as well, but there’s also some kind of weird sour-ish scent that I don’t enjoy. Okay, this isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I think that slight tart taste comes from the apples, but it’s not tart enough to be weird with the coconut. The mint is super subtle and just adds a nice freshness, while the coconut is smooth and creamy. Actually pretty good! :P

Sipdown! I’m finding that I really love coconut teas. I’m much more forgiving of their faults and I seem to reach for them more often. This is one I didn’t expect to like at all, but it’s shockingly good. It tastes like a creamy coconut drink with mint for a garnish! There’s apple in here too, but interestingly it just enhances the mint flavor. I would definitely buy this one.

Steeped up this tea again today. It tasted a little bit different from the first time I had made it. I tasted more of the apple this time and a little bit more coconut which made it more creamy. The mint was still the major flavor in it but the other favors aren’t overshadowed like they were last time. Definitely a tea to keep!

This tea has been quite the tricky one to brew. I hear it has come back with a reformulated flavor, so that probably plays into it. Anyway, I finally got a good cuppa this one! I steeped at about 6 minutes and added just a few pieces of Teavana rock sugar and it was yummy. I won’t be reordering this but I can finish the tin, I like the spearmint flavor.
Also, I added shredded sweetened coconut from Trader Joes to the blend in the steeper.

Sipdown, but I don’t get to deduct anything from my number since I apparently never entered this into my cupboard. Shame on me.

Anyway, this was a cold brew. A really gross cold brew. This was my first time trying this one, and I have to say that if this is what this blend has always tasted like, I’m shocked that DT brought it back – it’s so weird and funky, and I really disliked it.

Like, coconut (4261) and mint are one thing, but when you add the apple into there. Ew. What is that supposed to add or contribute!? Because for me it just made this tasted somewhat sour and funky because it clashed heavily with both kinds of mint in the blend. I didn’t finish it. I tried, but couldn’t do it.

This is a HUGE flop for me, and honestly I think it was a waste of a spot for the Winter teas. Someone please explain to me why it’s so popular…

I had this last night. When I opened the package, the first thing that came to mind was that this smelled like mint gum.

The upfront taste is apple, followed up by mint, which I found kinda weird. The flavours didn’t mesh well for me. I guess I’m in the minority on this one. I just don’t like it.

Quite tasty. Mint was quite forefront, with a nice amount of coconut and then a pineapple finish. I sampled this in store and passed on picking it up this time, but I might go back and get some before it’s gone.

One of my favorites — sadly just finished my bag and it appears that this was a seasonal item.
