I was happy to reblend this tea – not only because it is a fairly simple tea to reconstruct but also because it’s quite delicious! This tea was released shortly before we took over 52Teas and I think the timing of its release didn’t allow me the time to review it for the SororiTea Sisters blog before taking over. So this is – I believe – my first time reviewing the tea!

I thought it would be fun to pair a rich bold assam tea with marshmallow root and organic marshmallow flavors. This is sweet, soothing, and delicious.
What I remember liking so much about the original blend – and about this re-blended version as well – is that the natural malty flavors of the Assam paired so nicely with the sweet, fluffy notes of marshmallow. I didn’t stray from the recipe a great deal – because why? The only real difference here is that the Assam I use is from a different supplier – as is the marshmallow root.
This tea makes for a delightful breakfast tea – it’s sweet and comforting yet rich and robust with the gusto to get you up and at ’em!

Soo this is the second tea I had this morning. The name sounded amazing but I really didn’t have much hope that I’d like it since the rest of my last order from the old owner was a bust…But I was shocked at how good it was.
I really really hope that the new owners that I keep forgetting the name of…is it Annie? Or something that starts with an A? Oh goodness, this is what happens when you’re loaded on pain killers 24/7 guys. :P
But anyway I hope that she blends this one!! Like I totally smelled the marshmallow and malt from the dry leaf aroma and when I drank it those flavors were even stronger! I have had such bad luck with 52Teas, but holy crap guys! This one is a legit winner! I wish I had gotten more than one bag of this one! It’s so sweet and marshmallow-y, and yet malty from the assam base at the same time! Ahh this is a good one guys! :D :D :D Please re-blend this one, 52Teas new owner (that I think is Annie but I’m not really sure. Sorry. One day I will get it right)

I probably will reblend this one but with a different Assam. I like the Assam that I use in my black tea blend, so I probably would do that with this.

@Ost: No, she’s on facebook as Amethyst Bussey and we both post to the 52Teas page on Facebook. She will be the one handling the Instagram account when she gets that going. She’s not as devoted to tea as I am – I’m the one for the passion for tea, she’s the one with the mind for business. :)
Ohh okay-well that makes sense. Will have to remember that! I’ll just have to keep going back to this tasting note for reference when I am blanking out on who to thank for an amazing tea! :P
Yeah, I’m the one crafting the teas. But she does help with the packaging. But as far as the actual product goes – that’s me.
Additional notes: On the other hand…. unlike the last tea I drank, somehow this one is as delicious as when I first had it. That marshmallow flavor isn’t fading. Which I’m very thankful for, as I love this blend. This is Frank’s version. The base is like Butiki’s Premium Taiwanese Assam which is fantastic in itself. This would be even more delicious with vanilla beans. But I just saw that Anne reblended this AND created a tea called The Vanilla Marshmallow. Wut. The next teaspoon will be the last…. raising the rating from an 83.
I have to agree with AJ (the other reviewer here) – this tea is surprisingly weak, especially for an assam. I LOVE the marshmallow flavour though, it just kills me that the base here isn’t robust and malty enough to back it up. Again, I had already overleafed (we’re talking 2 tsp/8 oz. here), so there’s not much more I can do. The second infusion was very bland, so infusing longer is unlikely to help.
I usually find Assam a bit strong for my liking, so I’d probably find this one enjoyable. But I also thought weak marshmallow tea didn’t sound entirely worth placing an order.
That sucks, I was wondering if this was similar to his French Vanilla Assam which I loved.
Assam goes about as well with marshmallows as it does with vanilla (and no, that’s not a joke; I mean they go really well together).
Dunno what to say. Felt a little weak, which is weird for assam. Guess I’ll just have to make it stronger next time. But it’s assam, it’s marshmallows, they’re together, and it’s fantastic.
I love them both even though Vanilla Marshmallow somehow tastes a bit sour to me. Wonder why that is.
@Evol Ving Ness – How hot do you brew the Vanilla Marshmallow? If you’re using boiling water, this may be the issue. I have found that with teas with some herbals in them (like marshmallow root), the herbals can taste a bit sour, bitter or just plain “off” when steeped in boiling water – it took me years to figure this out for myself – but now I steep all my blacks at 205°F instead of the boiling temperature of 212°F. Believe it or not, that 7° makes a difference! The flavors are much smoother now with the lower temperature.

I’ve had water rush out of kettles and burn my hand, or splash back the leaves… so I never pour directly into the cup with the infuser inside already. Does that mean I’d have a totally new experience with all the teas I’ve come to love(or not)? oh dear. I’m in trouble :P
