a convenient tea and pretty good, but it doesn’t wow me with complexity.

Why would you brew this in gaiwan anyway? This is actually a nice, classic 2nd flush Assam. Malty, mildly sweet, mid body. Excellent when taken straight.

The leaves are small little and tight before brewing. They’re a nice bright green as well. They look almost like pine needles. It’s amazing how they unfurl to almost a full leaf and look almost brown when brewed. The liquid is a golden yellow color. It smells very floral. Almost like a chamomile. It tastes floral, astringent, it has a vegetal note as well, like grass. It has a mild nutty flavor.

drank Lishan light roast by Lin Mao Sen
87 tasting notes

This is for 2016, but only opened recently.
Dry leaf is shows slight roasted notes of nuts and more pungent vegetal component like endive.
steeped leaf is peppery, floral, buttery and slight chlorine

Liquor has initial sweetness then unfolds with leafy green vegetables, flowers and mild but pleasant bitterness at tip.
shows a bit more roast than some other lishans. adds nicely to complexity
very strong mid-palate that lingers to full finish

not quite as tasty as i recall when i first opened it a month ago. i still have a 2017 to open

drank Pure green by Tealia

I picked this up on a whim (at Home Goods, as most of my teas!), because I was intrigued by the cute container, and seemed of quality. I was right, it is a great pure green tea. Whole leaves sealed in a foil bag. Did not find this to be bitter, even though I am usually using boiling water. I find I reach for this a lot, and would consider buying again. I usually add honey to all my hot teas—-haven’t tasted cold or without sweetener yet.

Flavors: Green, Vegetal

Boiling 3 min, 15 sec 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

drank Masala Chai by Rishi Tea

This ranks as one of the best masala chai on the market.
I’ve tried blends from various tea shops and Rishi’s version wins hands down. It’s probably the extra dried ginger that gives it an extra kick.

So I maaaay have spoken too soon with my first note: I brewed up another cup of this and got drastically different results, not on an improvement. So this will likely end up being a very hit and miss tea for me.

Good for dessert. Cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, black pepper. All of the flavors come through, but I wish it were a little stronger. I could fix that by using more scoops, but then it would have more caffeine than I want; I can tell that the finely chopped black tea yields a high caffeine brew. The spice and caffeine means it’s a good way to wake up in the afternoon. When soy milk and agave are added, it’s pretty substantial and works on its own instead of having tea plus a snack. I’m going to shop around to see if I can find something a little stronger, but I still give this a very high rating.
