drank Minted Monkey by Tippy's Tea
768 tasting notes

I decided I absolutely deserved to finally open my new pouch of Minted Monkey. I think of this as an afternoon or evening dessert tea, but heck, who says you can’t have dessert with your mid morning break? I opened a box of my new Girl Scout shortbread cookies to go with it. Mmm… Delicious! Compared to the Oolong I had for breakfast this tea seems quite strong. (and maybe I used a little more leaves this time) But just as smooth as my sample from my last order. So glad I have this one back in the cupboard!

Fjellrev

Ahh, tea and Girl Scout cookies! Sounds like a wonderful combination.

sweetea

HOLD UP. GIRL GUIDES HAVE BEEN SPOTTED?! The most magical time of year has begun?!

Maddy Barone

Indeed. At least, here in Fargo ND, the little entrepreneurs are hard at work, destroying diets and selling bliss everywhere. Those shortbread cookies would go well with ANY tea I think!

sweetea

Gaaaaaaah. You lucky US people, you! I’m in Canada, and I’ve only ever seen the chocolate / vanilla sandwiches and the thin mints—which, to be fair, are my weakness, always and forever. But oh, for the VARIETY. . .

Fjellrev

I agree, sweetea! Actually, I’ve only seen the chocolate and vanilla sandwiches around. Man, those vanilla ones are addictive. Wish you can get only those.

sweetea

I wish they sold them online in Canada :(

Maddy Barone

You don’t get Girl Scout cookies up north??? That explains why so many of my Thunder Bay and Winnipeg friends stock up when they come down. :( :( :(

Fjellrev

Yeah, not sure why they don’t have more variety up here. Or at least have a company sell something comparable to a thin mint, because they sound fabulous.

Normally I want a black tea right away in the morning, but my sinus infection has gone into my lungs (sino-bronchitis, it’s called. lovely) and my throat is raw so I looked for something mild and soothing. I haven’t had this one in a while, so I decided on it. Such a lovely tea, so light and mild I can’t imagine anyone not liking it.

Preparation
185 °F / 85 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Hope you’re feeling better soon!

Great cup of tea, and not just for the holidays, but all year round. I brewed a pot of this late this afternoon and drank a cup hot. Then I had to go out, and when I came home I had a cup cold. It was great either way. Some spicy teas leave a coating on the tongue. This one didn’t. It has a warm, spicy flavor, but I didn’t feel like the spices were overpowering. I haven’t had a tea from Tippy’s yet that I didn’t enjoy. I think this will be fabulous tomorrow morning, when the temp is supposed to be -21 F (-30C).

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 30 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
TippysTea

I love to drink this tea as a latte, with a little touch of sugar.

After finishing the pot of the other Georgia tea Idecided to have a cup of this one too. What a great tea! Wish I could smell this and get the full experience of citrus. Still yummy.

Made a pot of this tea this morning. It is still a favorite. Mild, smooth, slightly sweet. I have enough left to send a sample over to another Steepsterian.

I received my Tippy’s Tea order today and this was the sample they sent along. Although I was anxious to brew a pot of Minted Monkey, I decided to make a cup of this to see how I liked it. I LOVE it! This tea is very, very smooth, almost sweet, with a hint something that I’ll call creamy. Without any flavoring, this is almost like a dessert tea. With my anosmia, I can’t differentiate between flavors, so others might rave about the maltiness, or the cocoa undertones, but i’ll just say “Yum!”

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 10 OZ / 295 ML
TippysTea

YAY! It arrived safely. We are glad you enjoyed the golden monkey. We really pondered over what sample to send you. We were going to send you a sample of a black blend we are working on then, but you dislike bitter, even slightly bitter. So we instead opted to send you this tea. I once brewed this particular tea for 10 minutes and it only imparted a very slight bitterness. Very hard to mess up!

Maddy Barone

Thanks so much for taking the time to review what I like and dislike, and choosing such a great sample for me. The second packet of Minted Monkey is a birthday gift for a friend who likes tea almost as much as I do. Hopefully, you’ll have another convert to your tea soon!

I had this one for my mid-morning tea, and I’m going to re-steep for my after lunch tea. Yum! Smooth, a bit of sweet, this might actually be the best of the Discover Georgia sampler I ordered from What-Cha.

drank Cranberry Pear by DAVIDsTEA

I decided to go with an old favorite tonight, so pulled Cranberry Pear out of the cupboard. This was one of my very first loose teas, (maybe THE first?) and I remember being amazed with the chunks of real cranberry and dried pear mixed in with the leaves. I’ve ranked it as a 100 partly for old times sake, and partly because I just really like this tea. The tea base is light compared to some I’ve had, but that’s not a bad thing. I think this tea will remain a favorite all my life.

My third tea of the day. I have a cough that brings up yuck … Sorry. TMI. I have a cough and a sore throat, so I thought I’d try this one again. It’s still pretty good, maybe better than the last cup I brewed because I was careful to not let it steep over 4 minutes. I think I;’ll do a 2dn steep and add maple syrup to it. I bought a teeny tiny bottle of maple syrup (3 ounces, approx 100 ml) and I keep forgetting that it would probably be marvelous in tea!

OMGsrsly

Maple syrup in keemuns or smokey teas = mmm…

Maddy Barone

The syrop wasn;‘t bad in the Clari Tea, but oooh, I have a tin of Grand Keemun from Tea Sourse. I’ll have to try that.

OMGsrsly

Just a little, though. It just adds a bit to the flavour. :)

I’m going through my What-Cha samples and having a second cup of the ones I haven’t had for a while. It’s not time to put in an order yet, but no reason not to be prepared, right? This is my second tea of the morning. Ahhh, so good! Smooth, with just a hint of cinnamon, I could drink this one all day. puts check in Re-Order box

OMGsrsly

I had my first rou gui a couple weeks ago! The flavour is so neat, isn’t it. :)

Maddy Barone

Yes, I really like this one!

I love cats. I love alone time. I love sitting indoors on a cold winter night with a book or my knitting while drinking tea. I don’t have a sense of smell, so many of the more subtle flavors of tea escape me. Two of the things I CAN taste are bitter and sour, so any tea that has even a slightly bitter taste is nasty for me. And what others might perceive as pleasant tartness may be horribly sour for me.

I’m also a writer. I love writing, and a mug of hot tea helps me get through the hours sitting in front of the computer. Although I’m a comparatively new tea drinker, I’m jumping in feet first. Feel free to recommend any teas you think I might enjoy.

100-91 – Wowza! I want to keep this tea in the cupboard all the time.
75-90 – Very nice. It would be good to have this tea on hand from time to time.
60-74 – OK. Wouldn’t keep it in the cupboard, but I would drink it again.
45-59 – If a friend served this I would drink it to be polite, but it’s not really my cuppa.
Lower than 45 – Blech. It was too sour or bitter for my taste. Would not drink it again.
