Some pictures of our baby tea plants! Florida/USA
Howdy Steepster,
As some of y’all know I’ve started growing tea here in the United States (Florida). Just wanted to share my ‘almost’ one year old plants!
Some have done great, others…didn’t make it. :(
Either way, if anyone else is growing tea in the US (or anywhere really) and wants to share experiences I would love to pass on what I’ve learned that helped mine to thrive!
Here is our Facebook profile page where you can see the pictures

**Edit: I’ve been trying to comment, but Steepster won’t publish anything I write!
So I’ll respond to the comments up here until Steepster starts to work again (I’m not even going to touch on how stupid it is that I can edit a topic, and yet not post a comment).
@Nicole; You should! Though maybe plant them in a pot so that you can bring them in during the winter. The mid-west doesn’t seem to know the word ‘mild’!
@Conchobar; The tea plants are F3 progeny from the ‘failed’ Lipton Tea project in the Southern United States. Its a mixture of Assamica and Sinensis, but looks to be more heavy on the Assamica sub-species. (though both go through different morphological distinctions depending on their growth conditions…)
@Crossfox, yep! I’m really curious to see what the yields are like here compared to my time I spent in Sri Lanka. I don’t think the yields will be that high…but then again most people growing tea here are doing it because they are tea-obsessed!
@Tabby; I love their little white flowers!
That is very cool. Some day I may try my hand even though I think I’d need a greenhouse set up of some kind in Missouri … but I can’t even get a flower bed prepared. :)
I have one baby tea plant that I’m raising. No idea how much I can get out of one plant but it’s been fun so far!
