Congratulations to both of you on finishing!
I made it to 50K with 1 day to spare due to a Herculean effort on Saturday. I’d been hovering around the bare daily minimum all the way through, some 4-5000 words behind at one point too. I was lucky that Husband wasn’t home for most of Saturday and I was VERY motivated to get it finished and get my spare time back, so I blasted through the daily 1667 without too much difficulty and then decided to see how far I could get before I completely ran out of wind, just so that it would be all that much easier the next day. Eventually that turned into ’I’m so close now, it’s stupid to stop.’ The last 750 words or so was like pulling teeth. I actually validated the first time at 49.5K just to see whether the NaNo counter counted higher or lower than my Scrivener counter. Actually it counted just about the same. I think the difference was 11 words or something like that, so no luck there.
I have to say, I didn’t have a lot of fun with it this year. I’m pleased with all the writing I got done, even though the story is rubbish. I’m pleased with having actually got even a lot of bad writing done. I did, however, fairly quickly discover that I had very little spare time. Husband is an understanding and supportive chap and didn’t pester me about house work, even though a lot of my daily tasks just didn’t get done and the place has been a mess and our characters in HabitRPG took a lot of damage. At one point, when I commented that I really ought to go and tidy the kitchen after dinner (like I usually do), he even told me, and I quote, “hang the kitchen.” Feel free to be jealous, Steepsterites! On top of this there has been a fair bit of stress at work this month and just in general a lot of things I would rather have done. We’ll see how I feel about it next year, but my thoughts coming out of it this year was pretty much that maybe my NaNoing years are behind me. These days I really prefer the Camp NaNo sessions in spring and summer with their flexible goals. They just suit me so much better.
Wow, sounds like you are blessed with an amazing husband! Good for you for finishing, even though it was tough.
Indeed I am. He’s my bestest friend in the world and totally awesome and smart and nice. :) ♥ ♥ ♥
Congrats on finishing! I also have a HabitRPG! Mine was languishing on some of my other tasks that I should have been doing.
I like the Camp flexibility as well. Its good stuff.
Habit is awesome! It makes me sound like an advert, but it really did change my life. I’m FAR more tidy now than I’ve ever been before. We’ve done it since we moved in here in mid-January this year, and there are a bunch of thing that I don’t even think about anymore because they’ve become habits. I just do them every day. I frequently take damage because I forget I have to tick them from the list now.
Congratulations NaNo winners and you are all winners in my view.
I did NaNo for the first time last year and it changed my life so much. I’ve kept writing ever since then even though I did not join this year.
