Water Filter

Our municipal water reeks of chlorine and often has sediment floating in it. I filter my water with a Brita pitcher. I found the Great Value brand filter cartridges work fine in it. My wife uses bottled water.

I got the bright idea to have a whole house filter installed so we can actually drink faucet water, as a precaution for the ice maker, and so we could stop buying bottled. It works. Bath water has never been so clear and the smell is gone from drinking water using the carbon filters.

The problem, and the reason for this post, is the diminished flow rate. I never even knew to ask about this when researching and no one mentioned it in the reviews. It takes forever to fill the tub. Apparently this type filter is rated at 1 gallon per minute. Most tubs/showers are typically around 5.

Sure the water tastes great now, I am just not sure how long my wife will put up with it. I just wanted to offer a heads up to anyone considering doing the same.

Instead of a whole house filter we just did the under sink kind in the kitchen… that way our showers are unaffected.

I don’t have sediment in my water, so I stopped spending money on filters and just use bamboo charcoal in a water decanter to get rid of any chlorine smell. Yunnan Sourcing sells the charcoal in bulk.
