Re-using Tea Tins?

Hello all,

I am in the process of attempting to reorganize my stash. I have two tins that I would like to put new teas in. They smell of the previous teas. I have used a small amount of vinegar and water and let them soak. I can still tell what tea was there previously. Are there any suggestions for getting tins ready for a new type of tea or once you use a tin are you stuck using it only for that tea?

Thanks!

Bummer that the smell didn’t come out of your tins all the way…I guess it depends on how long you’ve had tea in tins too, huh?
Well I had a peach tea in a tin for about 6 months that I ended up throwing away because it was bad tea. I washed that tin about 4 times, really thorough, but with just soap. Finally ended up getting the smell out of it. But then…like just this last week I decided to fill it with yet another peach tea, ironically, haha!
It probably just depends how long you have the tea in it…if it’s a few months the smell probably won’t stay, but if you have it in for a year or something, I could see how that would kinda “ruin” the tin.
Now I’m just trying to only put teas in tins that I am always gonna restock…

If you ever do find a good solution for getting rid of tea smells in tins, let me know. Because it’s a pain to wash a tea tin over and over again. xD

I’ve heard you could use the denture cleaning tablets to clean tea stains so maybe it will help get out tea smells too?

I like the idea of only using tins for restocks. I am finally starting to decide which teas I am going to keep around. I’ve been kind of crazy with the “must try everything” attitude.

I think for now I’m going to wash it a few more times and look for those cleaning tablets. Thanks guys!
