Does ANYONE on steepster drink Darjeeling?

I guess I thought it odd because on Steepster we obviously love tea and since darjeelings are complex by nature….well, it seemed quizzical that my search didn’t bring up a whole lot of them. It sounds like the golden tip subscription might bring them out of the shadows a bit, but Dr Jim, I think you’re right as well. Like bell bottoms, perhaps they just aren’t in fashion in Steepster this year! I’m sitting here with a Whispering Pines tea in my cup, so I have obviously been a lab rat in the experiment of the power of the crowd! I recently came across a review that was very smart. Each time the person drank the same tea, he updated the original review on the tea. I have been thinking of taking that approach, but that might take me out of people’s feed and drop the rating of the tea…. oh, the imperfections of steepster…..

The nature of a Darjeeling though, is it changes depending on the climate/weather conditions of that year. Ambootia, Namring, Jungpana, and just about any other Darjeelings goes through tremendous change. The best preparation parameters also change and it’s more like reviewing a different tea.

I was totally obsessed with darjeeling a few years ago, not so much anymore but I do drink a lot of them. I think they need their own category on Steepster. They are usually lumped in with black teas when they aren’t black at all.

Butiki has several really good darjeelings!

Darjeeling is the champagne of teas. One who understand teas knows what darjeeling tea is.
I prefer Darjeeling over all of the Black Teas.

I’m a big fan of Darjeelings. I’ve reviewed several of them, and usually have at least two in my cupboard. When I discovered Nepali teas I veered away from Darjeelings for a while because the teas have a lot of similarities, but the teas from Nepal were new and exciting to me. Now I float between the two.

I drink Darjeeling! :) I have been drinking second flush darjeelings for more than a decade and first flush black and white darjeelings for a little over a year now. FF and whites are great for summertime!

It’s unfortunate that so few in this community seem to be vocal about darjeeling. It’s such a particular tea that I would love to know where others are getting there’s. Perhaps a thread similar to “Sheng or Shou” would be appropriate for Darjeeling drinkers on Steepster.

I’ve had a few Darjeelings myself, but I’m far from being experienced with it. I would love to read/follow a Darjeeling discussion/mini-review thread, like “Sheng or Shous”. My experience with the dedicated pu’er thread has been nothing but informative and I’d love to read more discussions on specific categories/subcategories of teas.

I really like Darjeelings and have reviewed a few here, but I have not had any in ages due to no budget for tea buying. I should maybe stop drinking and writing about sheng so much and save up for some Darjeeling instead. The problem is that the ones I really like are expensive so they are more of an occasional treat than an everyday drink.

I agree, maybe we should set up a permanent discussion/thread for darjeeling teas? I’d more than welcome that.

Sounds like we’ve had a secret society going on Steepster without even knowing it! I just posted the thread in the Discussions section….can’t wait to see what all everyone posts!

I haven’t explored darjeelings as much, but I’ve liked them a lot when I’ve had them. I enjoy them in the summer especially. First flushes are my favorites! I’m dying to try darjeeling oolong too :-)
