What's your favourite type of promotion?

Hi everyone,

Tea At Sea is planning to have a special Canada Day sale that will last 24 hours.

We had a few 24h sales before which worked great at attracting new customers. Most of the sales were either a % discount on all teas or 50g free tea with a large order. This time, we want to ask tea drinkers:

What is your favourite type of promotion from tea companies?

What would you like to see from us or any other company in terms of limited time sales, specials or promotions?

Be as creative as you like.

For me a % off is usually enough to entice me, bonus points for more than 25% off and or free shipping. Is this sale for USA customers too? (: I just tried one of your teas in a TTB and fell in love with the packaging and the tea. I would love to see what else you guys are made of (;

Thanks for the positive feedback about our teas. The sale will be worldwide, actually shipping from Canada to the US is cheaper than shipping within Canada.

I really have a ton of tea, but when another company had a 50% code not long ago! I was behooved to get a lot more.

iPad- typos sorry!

I second that, 50% and I’ll buy pretty much no matter what. I’m so upset that I missed that sale though because I was on a cruise.

percentages; free samples – 50g free is not much to entice me since i like using samples to try teas i wouldn’t normally want to buy; free shipping at lower thresholds.

I agree! I like flat percentages off – makes it easy to calculate when I place my order!

Percentage off is the main inducement for me, but when a company cancels a normally free shipping policy during the sale, I am turned off.

I usually need a big discount (30% or more) to try a new company, but often when I’m already thinking about buying a small (10-15%) discount is enough. I have also been in a position when I had a few teas I wanted to buy from a vendor and when they offered free shipping on small orders I jumped on it.

My last three purchases were Zen tea (40% off; I hadn’t paid much attention to the company prior to the sale), Red Leaf Tea (2nd order: some items discounted over 30%), and Yunnan Sourcing (12% discount but I had already selected teas and was just waiting for an excuse to buy).

Ditto on Zen, that was my first purchase but I will definitely buy more.

I like options to try several small samples, rather than one or two large ones. (50 g is often too much for me). Shipping can be a deal-breaker, so any help there is appreciated.

A percentage off is nice, but I if a company has a lot of teas that I like, free tea that I can choose is nice too. Free shipping is nice if I just want to try one tea, but that’s probably less attractive to a seller.

Definitely a % discount or free shipping with a low/no threshold. Free samples are nice but I generally won’t go for larger amount bonus teas. I just have too much tea already to be adding large quantities of one new tea.

I like discounts, usually about 30% or higher is good. Making a price minimum is a good way to make me avoid a sale, as I don’t usually order much at once. Smaller sized samples are preferable as a bonus.

30% and up on all teas AND teaware. You’ll definitely get yourself a customer here. I liked zen tea when they had 40% percent off but it was just tea. I did get some matcha. Had the sale been for teaware as well, I would have definitely dropped some money on the order.

Ok, so 30% off seems to be the clear winner here. Interesting, because we always thought that extra tea bonuses would attract more customers rather than discounts.
Thank you all for your feedback. We will announce the sale within the next few days.

Excited to hear bout your sale thanks for checking in with everyone I also agree with the % off :)

I think the extra tea bonus can be ok sometimes, but if I don’t get to choose the free tea, I like that less.

We are also implementing a new loyalty program at the end of the week. So that returning customer would get tea bonuses on their next order regardless of sale. Twingles3 you would be one of them. Details coming soon.
